The Hymn of the Thousand Names of Lord Vishnu (Shri Vishnu Sahasranama Stotram).
ॐ
श्रीपरमात्मने नमः ।
नारायणं नमस्कृत्य नरं चैव नरोत्तमम् ।
देवीं सरस्वतीं व्यासं ततो जयमुदीरयेत् ॥
Om. Salutations to the Supreme Self (Paramatman). Having bowed down to Narayana, and to Nara, the best of men, as well as to the Goddess Sarasvati and Sage Vyasa, one should then utter the word of victory (Jaya).
ॐ अथ सकलसौभाग्यदायकं श्रीविष्णुसहस्रनामस्तोत्रम् ।
हरिः ॐ ॥
Om. Now begins the Shri Vishnu Sahasranama Stotram, which bestows all forms of prosperity and auspiciousness. Harih Om.
शुक्लाम्बरधरं विष्णुं शशिवर्णं चतुर्भुजम् ।
प्रसन्नवदनं ध्यायेत् सर्वविघ्नोपशान्तये ॥ १॥
One should meditate upon Lord Vishnu, who wears white garments, who is of the color of the moon, who has four arms, and who has a serene and cheerful countenance, for the pacification of all obstacles.
यस्य द्विरदवक्त्राद्याः पारिषद्याः परः शतम् ।
विघ्नं निघ्नन्ति सततं विष्वक्सेनं तमाश्रये ॥ २॥
I take refuge in Vishvaksena, whose attendants, led by the elephant-faced Ganesha and numbering more than a hundred, constantly destroy all obstacles.
व्यासं वसिष्ठनप्तारं शक्तेः पौत्रमकल्मषम् ।
पराशरात्मजं वन्दे शुकतातं तपोनिधिम् ॥ ३॥
I bow down to Sage Vyasa, the great-grandson of Vashistha, the grandson of Shakti, the sinless son of Parashara, the father of Shuka, and an ocean of penance.
व्यासाय विष्णुरूपाय व्यासरूपाय विष्णवे ।
नमो वै ब्रह्मनिधये वासिष्ठाय नमो नमः ॥ ४॥
Salutations to Vyasa who is of the form of Vishnu, and to Vishnu who is of the form of Vyasa. Salutations, repeated salutations, to him who is a treasure of Brahman (Vedic knowledge) and a descendant of Vashistha.
अविकाराय शुद्धाय नित्याय परमात्मने ।
सदैकरूपरूपाय विष्णवे सर्वजिष्णवे ॥ ५॥
Salutations to Vishnu, the all-conquering, who is changeless, pure, eternal, the Supreme Self, and who always possesses a single, unchanging form.
यस्य स्मरणमात्रेण जन्मसंसारबन्धनात् ।
विमुच्यते नमस्तस्मै विष्णवे प्रभविष्णवे ॥ ६॥
Salutations to that Vishnu, the all-powerful Lord, by mere remembrance of whom one is liberated from the bondage of the cycle of birth and worldly existence.
(नमः समस्तभूतानामादिभूताय भूभृते ।
अनेकरूपरूपाय विष्णवे प्रभविष्णवे ॥)
ॐ नमो विष्णवे प्रभविष्णवे ॥
(Salutations to Vishnu, the all-powerful Lord, who is the primeval source of all beings, the supporter of the earth, and who manifests in manifold forms.) Om, salutations to Vishnu, the all-powerful Lord.
श्रीवैशम्पायन उवाच---
श्रुत्वा धर्मानशेषेण पावनानि च सर्वशः ।
युधिष्ठिरः शान्तनवं पुनरेवाभ्यभाषत ॥ ७॥
Shri Vaishampayana said: Having heard all duties (dharmas) in their entirety and all purifying practices from every perspective, Yudhishthira once again addressed the son of Shantanu (Bhishma).
युधिष्ठिर उवाच---
किमेकं दैवतं लोके किं वाप्येकं परायणम् ।
स्तुवन्तः कं कमर्चन्तः प्राप्नुयुर्मानवाः शुभम् ॥ ८॥
Yudhishthira said: Who is the one supreme deity in the world? What is the sole supreme refuge? By praising whom and by worshipping whom do human beings attain auspiciousness and welfare?
को धर्मः सर्वधर्माणां भवतः परमो मतः ।
किं जपन्मुच्यते जन्तुर्जन्मसंसारबन्धनात् ॥ ९॥
Which dharma (duty) among all dharmas is, in your opinion, the supreme one? By chanting whose name or mantra does a living being get liberated from the bondage of the cycle of birth and worldly existence?
भीष्म उवाच---
जगत्प्रभुं देवदेवमनन्तं पुरुषोत्तमम् ।
स्तुवन् नामसहस्रेण पुरुषः सततोत्थितः ॥ १०॥
Bhishma said: A person, being ever-alert and active, should praise the Lord of the universe, the God of gods, the infinite, the Supreme Purusha (Purushottama), by chanting His thousand names.
तमेव चार्चयन्नित्यं भक्त्या पुरुषमव्ययम् ।
ध्यायन् स्तुवन् नमस्यंश्च यजमानस्तमेव च ॥ ११॥
And by always worshipping with devotion that same imperishable Purusha, meditating upon Him, praising Him, bowing down to Him, and performing worship unto Him alone.
अनादिनिधनं विष्णुं सर्वलोकमहेश्वरम् ।
लोकाध्यक्षं स्तुवन्नित्यं सर्वदुःखातिगो भवेत् ॥ १२॥
By constantly praising Lord Vishnu, who is without beginning or end, the Supreme Lord of all the worlds, and the overseer of the universe, one transcends all sorrows.
ब्रह्मण्यं सर्वधर्मज्ञं लोकानां कीर्तिवर्धनम् ।
लोकनाथं महद्भूतं सर्वभूतभवोद्भवम् ॥ १३॥
He who is the patron of spiritual knowledge and seekers, the knower of all righteousness, the enhancer of the glory of the worlds, the Lord of the universe, the Great Being, and the ultimate source of the origin and existence of all living beings.
एष मे सर्वधर्माणां धर्मोऽधिकतमो मतः ।
यद्भक्त्या पुण्डरीकाक्षं स्तवैरर्चेन्नरः सदा ॥ १४॥
This I consider to be the supreme duty among all duties: that a person should always, with devotion, worship the lotus-eyed Lord (Vishnu) by chanting His praises.
परमं यो महत्तेजः परमं यो महत्तपः ।
परमं यो महद्ब्रह्म परमं यः परायणम् ॥ १५॥
He who is the supreme, great effulgence; He who is the supreme, great penance; He who is the supreme, great Brahman; He who is the supreme, ultimate refuge.
पवित्राणां पवित्रं यो मङ्गलानां च मङ्गलम् ।
दैवतं दैवतानां च भूतानां योऽव्ययः पिता ॥ १६॥
He who is the most pure of all pure things, the most auspicious of all auspicious things, the God of gods, and the imperishable father of all beings.
यतः सर्वाणि भूतानि भवन्त्यादियुगागमे ।
यस्मिंश्च प्रलयं यान्ति पुनरेव युगक्षये ॥ १७॥
From whom all beings originate at the commencement of the primeval cosmic age, and into whom they merge back again at the end of the cosmic cycle.
तस्य लोकप्रधानस्य जगन्नाथस्य भूपते ।
विष्णोर्नामसहस्रं मे शृणु पापभयापहम् ॥ १८॥
Listen to the thousand names of that foremost Lord of the world, the master of the universe, Vishnu, which destroy all sins and fears, O King.
यानि नामानि गौणानि विख्यातानि महात्मनः ।
ऋषिभिः परिगीतानि तानि वक्ष्यामि भूतये ॥ १९॥
I shall recite, for the well-being and prosperity of all, those well-known names of the Great Soul (Vishnu) which are based on His divine attributes and have been sung by the sages.
ऋषिर्नाम्नां सहस्रस्य वेदव्यासो महामुनिः ।
छन्दोऽनुष्टुप् तथा देवो भगवान् देवकीसुतः ॥ २०॥
The sage for these thousand names is the great sage Veda Vyasa. The meter is Anushtup, and the deity is the divine son of Devaki (Krishna).
अमृतांशूद्भवो बीजं शक्तिर्देवकीनन्दनः ।
त्रिसामा हृदयं तस्य शान्त्यर्थे विनियोज्यते ॥ २१॥
"Amritanshudbhava" (He who is the source of the nectar-rayed moon) is the seed (Bija); "Devakinandana" (the son of Devaki) is the power (Shakti); "Trisama" (He who is praised by the three Sama hymns) is the heart (Hridaya); and this is consecrated for the purpose of attaining peace.
विष्णुं जिष्णुं महाविष्णुं प्रभविष्णुं महेश्वरम् ।
अनेकरूपदैत्यान्तं नमामि पुरुषोत्तमम् ॥ २२॥
I bow to the Supreme Purusha, Vishnu, the victorious, the great Vishnu, the glorious, the supreme Lord, of manifold forms, the destroyer of demons.

Purva Nyasa (Introductory Installations):
श्रीवेदव्यास उवाच---
ॐ अस्य श्रीविष्णोर्दिव्यसहस्रनामस्तोत्रमहामन्त्रस्य ।
श्रीवेदव्यासो भगवान् ऋषिः ।
अनुष्टुप् छन्दः ।
श्रीमहाविष्णुः परमात्मा श्रीमन्नारायणो देवता ।
अमृतांशूद्भवो भानुरिति बीजम् ।
देवकीनन्दनः स्रष्टेति शक्तिः ।
उद्भवः क्षोभणो देव इति परमो मन्त्रः ।
शङ्खभृन्नन्दकी चक्रीति कीलकम् ।
शार्ङ्गधन्वा गदाधर इत्यस्त्रम् ।
रथाङ्गपाणिरक्षोभ्य इति नेत्रम् ।
त्रिसामा सामगः सामेति कवचम् ।
आनन्दं परब्रह्मेति योनिः ।
ऋतुः सुदर्शनः काल इति दिग्बन्धः ।

Sri Veda Vyasa said: For this great mantra of the divine thousand names of Sri Vishnu, the venerable sage is Sri Veda Vyasa. The meter is Anushtup. The Supreme Lord, Sriman Narayana, the all-pervading Vishnu, is the presiding deity. The seed (bija) is 'He who is born of the nectar-rayed moon' (Amritamshudbhavo Bhanuh). The power (shakti) is 'The son of Devaki, the Creator' (Devakinandanah Srashta). The supreme mantra is 'The origin, the agitator, the Lord' (Udbhavah Kshobhano Devah). The pin (kilakam) is 'The bearer of the conch, the sword Nandaki, and the discus' (Shankhabhrinnandaki Chakri). The weapon (astram) is 'The wielder of the Sharnga bow and the mace' (Sharngadhanva Gadadharah). The eye (netram) is 'The one with the chariot wheel in hand, the unshakeable' (Rathangapanirakshobhyah). The armor (kavacham) is 'The singer of the Sama Veda, the Sama itself' (Trisama Samagah Sama). The womb (yoni) is 'Bliss, the Supreme Brahman' (Anandam Parabrahma). The binding of the directions (digbandhah) is 'The seasons, the beautiful discus, time' (Rituh Sudarshanah Kalah). The meditation (dhyanam) is on 'The universal form' (Sri Vishvarupa). The purpose of this recitation is for the pleasure of Sri Maha Vishnu.
अथ न्यासः ।
ॐ शिरसि वेदव्यासर्षये नमः ।
मुखे अनुष्टुप्छन्दसे नमः ।
हृदि श्रीकृष्णपरमात्मदेवतायै नमः ।
गुह्ये अमृतांशूद्भवो भानुरिति बीजाय नमः ।
पादयोर्देवकीनन्दनः स्रष्टेति शक्तये नमः ।
सर्वाङ्गे शङ्खभृन्नन्दकी चक्रीति कीलकाय नमः ।
करसम्पूटे मम श्रीकृष्णप्रीत्यर्थे जपे विनियोगः ॥
Now the Nyasa (installation of mantras on the body):
Om. Salutations to the sage Veda Vyasa on the head.
Salutations to the Anushtup meter on the mouth.
Salutations to the presiding deity, the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna, in the heart.
Salutations to the seed mantra 'Amritamshudbhavo Bhanuh' on the hidden parts.
Salutations to the power mantra 'Devakinandanah Srashta' on the feet.
Salutations to the pin mantra 'Shankhabhrinnandaki Chakri' on all parts of the body.
With folded hands, I undertake this chanting for the pleasure of Sri Krishna.

Thus ends the installation of sages and deities.
अथ करन्यासः ।
ॐ विश्वं विष्णुर्वषट्कार इत्यङ्गुष्ठाभ्यां नमः ।
अमृतांशूद्भवो भानुरिति तर्जनीभ्यां नमः ।
ब्रह्मण्यो ब्रह्मकृद्ब्रह्मेति मध्यमाभ्यां नमः ।
सुवर्णबिन्दुरक्षोभ्य इत्यनामिकाभ्यां नमः ।
निमिषोऽनिमिषः स्रग्वीति कनिष्ठिकाभ्यां नमः ।
रथाङ्गपाणिरक्षोभ्य इति करतलकरपृष्ठाभ्यां नमः ।
इति करन्यासः ॥
Now the Kara Nyasa (installation on the hands):
Om. Salutations to the thumbs with the mantra 'Vishvam Vishnur Vashatkarah'.
Salutations to the index fingers with the mantra 'Amritamshudbhavo Bhanuh'.
Salutations to the middle fingers with the mantra 'Brahmanyo Brahmakrid Brahma'.
Salutations to the ring fingers with the mantra 'Suvarnabindur Akshobhyah'.
Salutations to the little fingers with the mantra 'Nimisho Nimishah Sragvi'.
Salutations to the front and back of the palms with the mantra 'Rathangapanir Akshobhyah'.
Thus ends the Kara Nyasa.
अथ षडङ्गन्यासः ।
ॐ विश्वं विष्णुर्वषट्कार इति हृदयाय नमः ।
अमृतांशूद्भवो भानुरिति शिरसे स्वाहा ।
ब्रह्मण्यो ब्रह्मकृद्ब्रह्मेति शिखायै वषट् ।
सुवर्णबिन्दुरक्षोभ्य इति कवचाय हुम् ।
निमिषोऽनिमिषः स्रग्वीति नेत्रत्रयाय वौषट् ।
रथाङ्गपाणिरक्षोभ्य इत्यस्त्राय फट् ।

Now the Shadanga Nyasa (installation on the six parts of the body):
Om. Salutations to the heart with the mantra 'Vishvam Vishnur Vashatkarah'.
Svaha to the head with the mantra 'Amritamshudbhavo Bhanuh'.
Vashat to the tuft of hair (shikha) with the mantra 'Brahmanyo Brahmakrid Brahma'.
Hum to the armor (kavacha) with the mantra 'Suvarnabindur Akshobhyah'.
Vaushat to the three eyes with the mantra 'Nimisho Nimishah Sragvi'.
Phat to the weapon (astra) with the mantra 'Rathangapanir Akshobhyah'.
(Alternatively: Salutations to the heart for knowledge with 'Suvratah Sumukhah Sukshmah'. Svaha to the head for sovereignty with 'Sahasramurdha Vishvatma'. श्रीकृष्णप्रीत्यर्थे विष्णोर्दिव्यसहस्रनामजपमहं
करिष्ये इति सङ्कल्पः ।
अथ ध्यानम् ।
क्षीरोदन्वत्प्रदेशे शुचिमणिविलसत्सैकते मौक्तिकानां
मालाकॢप्तासनस्थः स्फटिकमणिनिभैर्मौक्तिकैर्मण्डिताङ्गः ।
शुभ्रैरभ्रैरदभ्रैरुपरिविरचितैर्मुक्तपीयूषवर्षै-
रानन्दी नः पुनीयादरिनलिनगदाशङ्खपाणिर्मुकुन्दः ॥ १॥
Resolution (Sankalpa): I make this resolve to chant the divine thousand names of Vishnu for the pleasure of Lord Sri Krishna.
Now the Meditation (Dhyanam):
May Mukunda, who holds the discus, the lotus, the mace, and the conch in His hands, purify us. He is seated on a throne formed by garlands of pearls, located in the region of the milky ocean where the sandy shores gleam with pure gems. His body is adorned with pearls shining like crystal gems, and He is experiencing supreme bliss while being continuously showered with nectar by the pure, abundant white clouds formed above Him.
भूः पादौ यस्य नाभिर्वियदसुरनिलश्चन्द्रसूर्यौ च नेत्रे
कर्णावाशाः शिरो द्यौर्मुखमपि दहनो यस्य वास्तेयमब्धिः ।
अन्तःस्थं यस्य विश्वं सुरनरखगगोभोगिगन्धर्वदैत्यैः
चित्रं रंरम्यते तं त्रिभुवनवपुषं विष्णुमीशं नमामि ॥ २॥
I bow to the Lord Vishnu, whose body is the three worlds: whose feet are the earth, whose navel is the sky, whose breath is the wind, whose eyes are the sun and moon, whose ears are the directions, whose head is the heaven, whose mouth is fire, whose abdomen is the ocean, within whom the universe is situated, and who is wonderfully delighted in by gods, men, birds, cattle, serpents, Gandharvas, and Daityas.
ॐ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय ॥
Om. Salutations to the Supreme Lord Vasudeva.
ॐ शान्ताकारं भुजगशयनं पद्मनाभं सुरेशं
विश्वाधारं गगनसदृशं मेघवर्णं शुभाङ्गम् ।
लक्ष्मीकान्तं कमलनयनं योगिभिर्ध्यानगम्यं (योगिहृद्ध्यानगम्यं)
वन्दे विष्णुं भवभयहरं सर्वलोकैकनाथम् ॥ ३॥
I bow to Vishnu, the sole master of all worlds, the destroyer of the fear of worldly existence, whose form is peaceful, who sleeps on a serpent bed, whose navel has a lotus, who is the Lord of gods, the support of the universe, vast like the sky, dark like a cloud, of beautiful limbs, the beloved of Lakshmi, lotus-eyed, and who is attainable by yogis through meditation.
मेघश्यामं पीतकौशेयवासं
श्रीवत्साङ्कं कौस्तुभोद्भासिताङ्गम् ।
पुण्योपेतं पुण्डरीकायताक्षं
विष्णुं वन्दे सर्वलोकैकनाथम् ॥ ४॥
I bow to Vishnu, the sole master of all worlds, who is dark like a cloud, wearing a yellow silk garment, marked with the Srivatsa, whose body shines with the Kaustubha gem, endowed with merit, and lotus-eyed.
नमः समस्तभूतानामादिभूताय भूभृते ।
अनेकरूपरूपाय विष्णवे प्रभविष्णवे ॥ ५॥
Salutations to the Primal Source of all beings, the Supporter of the earth. Salutations to Vishnu, the Mighty Lord, who assumes manifold forms.
सशङ्खचक्रं सकिरीटकुण्डलं
सपीतवस्त्रं सरसीरुहेक्षणम् ।
सहारवक्षःस्थलकौस्तुभश्रियं (स्थलशोभिकौस्तुभं)
नमामि विष्णुं शिरसा चतुर्भुजम् ॥ ६॥
I bow my head to the four-armed Vishnu, who holds a conch and discus, wears a crown and earrings, is clad in yellow garments, has lotus-like eyes, and whose chest is adorned with a garland and the Kaustubha gem.
छायायां पारिजातस्य हेमसिंहासनोपरि
आसीनमम्बुदश्याममायताक्षमलंकृतम् ।
चन्द्राननं चतुर्बाहुं श्रीवत्साङ्कितवक्षसं
रुक्मिणीसत्यभामाभ्यां सहितं कृष्णमाश्रये ॥ ७॥
I take refuge in Krishna, accompanied by Rukmini and Satyabhama, seated on a golden throne under the shade of the Parijata tree, dark like a cloud, with large eyes, adorned, with a moon-like face, four arms, and a chest marked by the Srivatsa.

Stotram (The Hymn of 1000 Names):
हरिः ॐ ।
ॐ विश्वं विष्णुर्वषट्कारो भूतभव्यभवत्प्रभुः ।
भूतकृद्भूतभृद्भावो भूतात्मा भूतभावनः ॥ १॥
पूतात्मा परमात्मा च मुक्तानां परमा गतिः ।
अव्ययः पुरुषः साक्षी क्षेत्रज्ञोऽक्षर एव च ॥ २॥
He who is the Pure Soul (Putatma), the Supreme Soul (Paramatma), the ultimate goal of the liberated (Muktanam Parama Gati), the Imperishable (Avyaya), the Supreme Person (Purusha), the Witness (Sakshi), the Knower of the field/body (Kshetrajna), and the Indestructible (Akshara).
योगो योगविदां नेता प्रधानपुरुषेश्वरः ।
नारसिंहवपुः श्रीमान् केशवः पुरुषोत्तमः ॥ ३॥
He who is Yoga (the path of spiritual union), the Guide of those who know Yoga, the Lord of primordial matter (Pradhana) and the individual soul (Purusha); He whose form is half-man and half-lion, who is possessed of divine beauty and majesty (Shriman), whose locks of hair are beautiful (Keshavah), and who is the Supreme Spirit (Purushottamah).
सर्वः शर्वः शिवः स्थाणुर्भूतादिर्निधिरव्ययः ।
सम्भवो भावनो भर्ता प्रभवः प्रभुरीश्वरः ॥ ४॥
He who is Everything (Sarva), the Auspicious (Sharva), the Eternally Pure (Shiva), the Immovable (Sthanu), the Source of all beings (Bhutadi), the Imperishable Treasure (Nidhiravyaya), who manifests of His own will (Sambhava), the Benefactor (Bhavana), the Supporter (Bharta), the Creator (Prabhava), the Lord (Prabhu), and the Controller (Ishvara).
स्वयम्भूः शम्भुरादित्यः पुष्कराक्षो महास्वनः ।
अनादिनिधनो धाता विधाता धातुरुत्तमः ॥ ५॥
Svayambhu (the self-born), Shambhu (the source of auspiciousness), Aditya (the Sun / son of Aditi), Pushkaraksha (the lotus-eyed), Mahasvana (of great sound/voice), Anadinidhana (without beginning or end), Dhata (the supporter), Vidhata (the dispenser of fruits of action), and Dhaturuttama (the supreme substance).
अप्रमेयो हृषीकेशः पद्मनाभोऽमरप्रभुः ।
विश्वकर्मा मनुस्त्वष्टा स्थविष्ठः स्थविरो ध्रुवः ॥ ६॥
Aprameya (the immeasurable), Hrishikesha (the Lord of the senses), Padmanabha (the lotus-navelled), Amaraprabhu (the Lord of the immortals), Vishvakarma (the creator of the universe), Manu (the great thinker), Tvashta (the shaper of all forms), Sthavistha (the most massive), and Sthavira Dhruva (the ancient and unchanging).
अग्राह्यः शाश्वतः कृष्णो लोहिताक्षः प्रतर्दनः ।
प्रभूतस्त्रिककुब्धाम पवित्रं मङ्गलं परम् ॥ ७॥
Agrahya (the incomprehensible), Shashvata (the eternal), Krishna (the dark-complexioned / existence-knowledge-bliss), Lohitaksha (the red-eyed), Pratardana (the destroyer of all at dissolution), Prabhuta (the abundant), Trikakubdhama (the support of the three regions), Pavitram (the pure/purifier), and Mangalam Param (the supreme auspiciousness).
ईशानः प्राणदः प्राणो ज्येष्ठः श्रेष्ठः प्रजापतिः ।
हिरण्यगर्भो भूगर्भो माधवो मधुसूदनः ॥ ८॥
Ishana (the ruler), Pranada (the giver of life), Prana (the life-breath itself), Jyestha (the eldest), Shrestha (the most excellent), Prajapati (the Lord of all creatures), Hiranyagarbha (the golden womb / creator), Bhugarbha (He who has the Earth in His womb), Madhava (the Lord of knowledge / consort of Lakshmi), and Madhusudana (the destroyer of the demon Madhu).
ईश्वरो विक्रमी धन्वी मेधावी विक्रमः क्रमः ।
अनुत्तमो दुराधर्षः कृतज्ञः कृतिरात्मवान् ॥ ९॥
Ishvara (the supreme ruler), Vikrami (the courageous / giant-strider), Dhanvi (the wielder of the bow), Medhavi (the highly intelligent), Vikrama (He who transcends), Krama (the systematic order), Anuttama (the peerless / unsurpassed), Duradharsha (the unassailable), Kritajna (the grateful), Kriti (the action/effort itself), and Atmavan (the self-possessed / established in His own glory).
सुरेशः शरणं शर्म विश्वरेताः प्रजाभवः ।
अहः संवत्सरो व्यालः प्रत्ययः सर्वदर्शनः ॥ १०॥
Suresha (the Lord of the gods), Sharanam (the ultimate refuge), Sharma (the supreme bliss/shelter), Vishvareta (the seed of the universe), Prajabhava (the origin of all beings), Aha (the day / luminous), Samvatsara (the year / time), Vyala (the ungraspable serpent), Pratyaya (the consciousness / conviction), and Sarvadarshana (the all-seeing).
अजः सर्वेश्वरः सिद्धः सिद्धिः सर्वादिरच्युतः ।
वृषाकपिरमेयात्मा सर्वयोगविनिःसृतः ॥ ११॥
Aja (the unborn), Sarveshvara (the Lord of all), Siddha (the perfected one), Siddhi (the goal / achievement), Sarvadi (the beginning of all), Achyuta (the infallible), Vrishakapi (He who showers virtues and lifts the world), Ameyatma (the immeasurable self), and Sarvayogavinishrita (He who is free from all attachments / attained through all yogas).
वसुर्वसुमनाः सत्यः समात्माऽसम्मितः समः ।
अमोघः पुण्डरीकाक्षो वृषकर्मा वृषाकृतिः ॥ १२॥
Vasu (the indwelling deity / wealth), Vasumana (the pure-minded), Satya (the truth), Samatma (the equal-minded), Asammita (the limitless), Sama (the unbiased), Amogha (the unerring), Pundarikaksha (the lotus-eyed), Vrishakarma (of righteous actions), and Vrishakriti (of the form of righteousness).
रुद्रो बहुशिरा बभ्रुर्विश्वयोनिः शुचिश्रवाः ।
अमृतः शाश्वतस्थाणुर्वरारोहो महातपाः ॥ १३॥
Rudra (the dispeller of sorrow), Bahushira (the many-headed), Babhru (the supporter of the worlds), Vishvayoni (the womb of the universe), Shuchishrava (He of pure fame / who hears pure words), Amrita (the immortal), Shashvatasthanu (the eternal and motionless), Vararoho (the supreme ascent / glorious seat), and Mahatapa (of great penance and energy).
सर्वगः सर्वविद्भानुर्विष्वक्सेनो जनार्दनः ।
वेदो वेदविदव्यङ्गो वेदाङ्गो वेदवित् कविः ॥ १४॥
Sarvaga (the all-pervading), Sarvavid-bhanu (the all-knowing and luminous), Vishvaksena (He against whom no army can stand), Janardana (the savior of people / destroyer of the wicked), Veda (the Vedas themselves), Vedavid (the knower of the Vedas), Avyanga (the perfect / without defect), Vedanga (He whose limbs are the Vedas), Vedavit (the knower of the true meaning of the Vedas), and Kavi (the omniscient seer).
लोकाध्यक्षः सुराध्यक्षो धर्माध्यक्षः कृताकृतः ।
चतुरात्मा चतुर्व्यूहश्चतुर्दंष्ट्रश्चतुर्भुजः ॥ १५॥
Lokadhyaksha (the lord of the worlds), Suradhyaksha (the lord of the gods), Dharmadhyaksha (the lord of righteousness), Kritakrita (the cause and the effect / the created and uncreated), Chaturatma (the four-fold self), Chaturvyuha (the four-fold manifestation), Chaturdamstra (the four-fanged), and Chaturbhuja (the four-armed).
भ्राजिष्णुर्भोजनं भोक्ता सहिष्णुर्जगदादिजः ।
अनघो विजयो जेता विश्वयोनिः पुनर्वसुः ॥ १६॥
Bhrajishnu (the effulgent), Bhojana (the object of enjoyment / food), Bhokta (the enjoyer), Sahishnu (the patient / forgiver), Jagadadija (born at the very beginning of the universe), Anagha (the sinless), Vijaya (the victorious), Jeta (the conqueror), Vishvayoni (the cause of the universe), and Punarvasu (He who dwells repeatedly in bodies).
उपेन्द्रो वामनः प्रांशुरमोघः शुचिरूर्जितः ।
अतीन्द्रः सङ्ग्रहः सर्गो धृतात्मा नियमो यमः ॥ १७॥
Upendra (the younger brother of Indra), Vamana (the dwarf incarnation), Pranshu (the tall / cosmic form), Amogha (the infallible), Shuchi (the pure), Urjita (the infinitely powerful), Atindra (beyond Indra / beyond the senses), Sangraha (the absorber of all), Sarga (the creator / creation), Dhritatma (the self-sustained), Niyama (the regulator), and Yama (the controller).
वेद्यो वैद्यः सदायोगी वीरहा माधवो मधुः ।
अतीन्द्रियो महामायो महोत्साहो महाबलः ॥ १८॥
Vedya (the one to be known), Vaidya (the supreme healer), Sadayogi (the eternal yogi), Viraha (the destroyer of heroic demons), Madhava (the Lord of knowledge), Madhu (sweet like honey), Atindriya (beyond the reach of the senses), Mahamaya (the master of great illusion), Mahotsaha (of great enthusiasm), and Mahabala (of supreme strength).
महाबुद्धिर्महावीर्यो महाशक्तिर्महाद्युतिः ।
अनिर्देश्यवपुः श्रीमानमेयात्मा महाद्रिधृक् ॥ १९॥
Mahabuddhi (of supreme intellect), Mahavirya (of supreme valor), Mahashakti (of supreme power), Mahadyuti (of supreme splendor), Anirdeshyavapu (of indefinable form), Shriman (possessed of all glory and beauty), Ameyatma (of immeasurable soul), and Mahadridhrik (the lifter of the great mountain).
महेष्वासो महीभर्ता श्रीनिवासः सतां गतिः ।
अनिरुद्धः सुरानन्दो गोविन्दो गोविदां पतिः ॥ २०॥
The Wielder of the mighty bow (Maheshvasa), the Supporter of the earth (Mahibharta), the Abode of Lakshmi (Srinivasa), the Goal of the righteous (Satam Gati), the Unobstructed (Aniruddha), the Bliss of the gods (Surananda), the Rescuer of the earth/cows (Govinda), and the Lord of those who know the Vedas (Govidam Pati).
मरीचिर्दमनो हंसः सुपर्णो भुजगोत्तमः ।
हिरण्यनाभः सुतपाः पद्मनाभः प्रजापतिः ॥ २१॥
The Ray of Light (Marichi), the Subduer (Damana), the Swan/Pure (Hamsa), of beautiful wings (Suparna), the Best among serpents (Bhujagottama), of golden navel (Hiranyanabha), of excellent penance (Sutapa), of lotus navel (Padmanabha), and the Lord of creatures (Prajapati).
अमृत्युः सर्वदृक् सिंहः सन्धाता सन्धिमान् स्थिरः ।
अजो दुर्मर्षणः शास्ता विश्रुतात्मा सुरारिहा ॥ २२॥
The Deathless (Amrityu), the All-Seeing (Sarvadrik), the Lion (Simha), the Uniter (Sandhata), the Possessor of unity (Sandhiman), the Firm (Sthira), the Unborn (Aja), the Invincible (Durmarshana), the Ruler (Shasta), the Famous soul (Vishrutatma), and the Slayer of the enemies of the gods (Surariha).
गुरुर्गुरुतमो धाम सत्यः सत्यपराक्रमः ।
निमिषोऽनिमिषः स्रग्वी वाचस्पतिरुदारधीः ॥ २३॥
The Teacher (Guru), the Supreme Teacher (Gurutama), the Ultimate Abode (Dhama), the Truth (Satya), of true valor (Satyaparakrama), with closing eyes (Nimisha), with unblinking eyes (Animisha), wearing the garland of victory (Sragvi), the Lord of Speech (Vachaspati), and of magnanimous intellect (Udaradhi).
अग्रणीर्ग्रामणीः श्रीमान् न्यायो नेता समीरणः ।
सहस्रमूर्धा विश्वात्मा सहस्राक्षः सहस्रपात् ॥ २४॥
The Foremost Leader (Agrani), the Leader of the flock (Gramani), the Glorious (Shriman), the Justice (Nyaya), the Guide (Neta), the Wind/Mover (Samirana), the Thousand-headed (Sahasramurdha), the Soul of the universe (Vishvatma), the Thousand-eyed (Sahasraksha), and the Thousand-footed (Sahasrapat).
आवर्तनो निवृत्तात्मा संवृतः सम्प्रमर्दनः ।
अहः संवर्तको वह्निरनिलो धरणीधरः ॥ २५॥
The one who turns the wheel of samsara (Avartana), the Detached soul (Nivrittatma), the Concealed (Samvrita), the Great Crusher (Sampramardana), the Day (Aha), the Destroyer of time (Samvartaka), the Fire (Vahni), the Wind (Anila), and the Supporter of the Earth (Dharanidhara).
सुप्रसादः प्रसन्नात्मा विश्वधृग्विश्वभुग्विभुः ।
सत्कर्ता सत्कृतः साधुर्जह्नुर्नारायणो नरः ॥ २६॥
Of excellent grace (Suprasada), of cheerful soul (Prasannatma), the Supporter of the universe (Vishvadhrik), the Enjoyer of the universe (Vishvabhuk), the All-Pervading (Vibhu), the Honorer (Satkarta), the Honored (Satkrita), the Righteous (Sadhu), the Leader of men (Jahnu), the Refuge of men (Narayana), and the Man (Nara).
असङ्ख्येयोऽप्रमेयात्मा विशिष्टः शिष्टकृच्छुचिः ।
सिद्धार्थः सिद्धसङ्कल्पः सिद्धिदः सिद्धिसाधनः ॥ २७॥
The Countless (Asankhyeya), of immeasurable soul (Aprameyatma), the Distinguished (Vishishta), the Maker of the rules/learned (Sishtakrit), the Pure (Shuchi), the Attainer of goals (Siddhartha), of fulfilled desires (Siddhasankalpa), the Giver of success (Siddhida), and the Means to success (Siddhisadhana).
वृषाही वृषभो विष्णुर्वृषपर्वा वृषोदरः ।
वर्धनो वर्धमानश्च विविक्तः श्रुतिसागरः ॥ २८॥
The Day of Dharma (Vrishahi), the Showerer of boons (Vrishabha), the All-Pervading (Vishnu), the Ladder of Dharma (Vrishaparva), of a belly containing the universe (Vrishodara), the Nourisher (Vardhana), the Ever-growing (Vardhamana), the Solitary/Pure (Vivikta), and the Ocean of Shruti/Vedas (Shrutisagara).
सुभुजो दुर्धरो वाग्मी महेन्द्रो वसुदो वसुः ।
नैकरूपो बृहद्रूपः शिपिविष्टः प्रकाशनः ॥ २९॥
Of beautiful arms (Subhuja), the Irresistible (Durdhara), the Eloquent (Vagmi), the Supreme Lord (Mahendra), the Giver of wealth (Vasuda), the Wealth (Vasu), of manifold forms (Naikarupa), of immense form (Brihadrupa), the Pervader of the rays (Shipivishta), and the Illuminator (Prakashana).
ओजस्तेजोद्युतिधरः प्रकाशात्मा प्रतापनः ।
ऋद्धः स्पष्टाक्षरो मन्त्रश्चन्द्रांशुर्भास्करद्युतिः ॥ ३०॥
The Bearer of vitality, radiance, and beauty (Ojastejodyutidhara), the Radiant soul (Prakashatma), the Scorcher (Pratapana), the Prosperous (Riddha), of clear syllables (Spashtakshara), the Mantra (Mantra), the Ray of the Moon (Chandramshu), and of Sun-like brilliance (Bhaskaradyuti).
अमृतांशूद्भवो भानुः शशबिन्दुः सुरेश्वरः ।
औषधं जगतः सेतुः सत्यधर्मपराक्रमः ॥ ३१॥
The source of the nectar-rayed Moon (Amritamshudbhava), the Sun (Bhanu), the mark of the hare/Moon (Shashabindu), the Lord of the gods (Sureshvara), the Medicine (Aushadham), the Bridge of the universe (Jagatah Setu), and of true dharma and valor (Satyadharmaparakrama).
भूतभव्यभवन्नाथः पवनः पावनोऽनलः ।
कामहा कामकृत्कान्तः कामः कामप्रदः प्रभुः ॥ ३२॥
The Lord of the past, present, and future (Bhutabhavyabhavannatha), the Wind (Pavana), the Purifier (Pavana), the Fire (Anala), the Destroyer of desires (Kamaha), the Fulfiller of desires (Kamakrit), the Beloved (Kanta), the Desire (Kama), the Bestower of desires (Kamaprada), and the Lord (Prabhu).
युगादिकृद्युगावर्तो नैकमायो महाशनः ।
अदृश्यो व्यक्तरूपश्च सहस्रजिदनन्तजित् ॥ ३३॥
The Creator of the Yugas (Yugadikrit), the Turner of the Yugas (Yugavarta), of manifold illusions (Naikamaya), the Great Eater at dissolution (Mahashana), the Invisible (Adrishya), of manifest form (Vyaktarupa), the Conqueror of thousands (Sahasrajit), and the Infinite Conqueror (Anantajit).
इष्टोऽविशिष्टः शिष्टेष्टः शिखण्डी नहुषो वृषः ।
क्रोधहा क्रोधकृत्कर्ता विश्वबाहुर्महीधरः ॥ ३४॥
The Beloved (Ishta), the Undistinguished (Avishishta), beloved by the learned (Sishteshta), wearing a peacock feather (Shikhandi), the Binder (Nahusha), the Showerer (Vrisha), the Destroyer of anger (Krodhaha), the Creator of anger (Krodhakritkarta), of universal arms (Vishvabahu), and the Supporter of the Earth (Mahidhara).
अच्युतः प्रथितः प्राणः प्राणदो वासवानुजः ।
अपांनिधिरधिष्ठानमप्रमत्तः प्रतिष्ठितः ॥ ३५॥
The Infallible (Achyuta), the Famous (Prathita), the Life Force (Prana), the Giver of life (Pranada), the younger brother of Indra (Vasavanuja), the Ocean (Apamnidhi), the Foundation (Adhishthana), the Ever-Vigilant (Apramatta), and the Established (Pratishthita).
स्कन्दः स्कन्दधरो धुर्यो वरदो वायुवाहनः ।
वासुदेवो बृहद्भानुरादिदेवः पुरन्दरः ॥ ३६॥
The Leaper/Kartikeya (Skanda), the Supporter of Skanda (Skandadhara), the Bearer of the yoke (Dhurya), the Bestower of boons (Varada), whose vehicle is the wind (Vayuvahana), the son of Vasudeva (Vasudeva), of great radiance (Brihadbhanu), the Primal God (Adideva), and the Destroyer of cities (Purandara).
अशोकस्तारणस्तारः शूरः शौरिर्जनेश्वरः ।
अनुकूलः शतावर्तः पद्मी पद्मनिभेक्षणः ॥ ३७॥
Free from sorrow (Ashoka), the Rescuer (Tarana), the Savior (Tara), the Valiant (Shura), the descendant of Shura (Shauri), the Lord of the people (Janeshvara), the Favorable (Anukula), of a hundred whirlpools (Shatavarta), holding a lotus (Padmi), and with lotus-like eyes (Padmanibhekshana).
पद्मनाभोऽरविन्दाक्षः पद्मगर्भः शरीरभृत् ।
महर्द्धिरृद्धो वृद्धात्मा महाक्षो गरुडध्वजः ॥ ३८॥
With a lotus navel (Padmanabha), lotus-eyed (Aravindaksha), emerging from the lotus womb (Padmagarbha), the Sustainer of bodies (Sharirabhrit), of great prosperity (Maharddhi), the Prosperous (Riddha), of ancient soul (Vriddhatma), of great eyes (Mahaksha), and with Garuda on His banner (Garudadhvaja).
अतुलः शरभो भीमः समयज्ञो हविर्हरिः ।
सर्वलक्षणलक्षण्यो लक्ष्मीवान् समितिञ्जयः ॥ ३९॥
The Incomparable (Atula), the Destroyer/Sharabha (Sharabha), the Formidable (Bhima), the Knower of time/conventions (Samayajna), the Receiver of oblations (Havirhari), characterized by all auspicious marks (Sarvalakshanalakshanya), the Possessor of Lakshmi (Lakshmivan), and the Victor in battles (Samitinjaya).
विक्षरो रोहितो मार्गो हेतुर्दामोदरः सहः ।
महीधरो महाभागो वेगवानमिताशनः ॥ ४०॥
The Imperishable (Vikshara), the Red Fish (Rohita), the Path (Marga), the Cause (Hetu), having a rope around His belly (Damodara), the Endurer (Saha), the Supporter of the earth (Mahidhara), of great fortune (Mahabhaga), the Swift (Vegavan), and of infinite consumption (Amitashana).
उद्भवः क्षोभणो देवः श्रीगर्भः परमेश्वरः ।
करणं कारणं कर्ता विकर्ता गहनो गुहः ॥ ४१॥
The Source (Udbhava), the Agitator (Kshobhana), the Radiant Lord (Deva), the Womb of Lakshmi (Shrigarbha), the Supreme Lord (Parameshvara), the Instrument (Karanam), the Cause (Karanam), the Agent (Karta), the Creator of varieties (Vikarta), the Deep/Mysterious (Gahana), and the Concealed (Guha).
व्यवसायो व्यवस्थानः संस्थानः स्थानदो ध्रुवः ।
परर्द्धिः परमस्पष्टस्तुष्टः पुष्टः शुभेक्षणः ॥ ४२॥
The Resolute (Vyavasaya), the Foundation (Vyavasthana), the Ultimate Abode (Samsthana), the Giver of status (Sthanada), the Unchanging (Dhruva), of supreme glory (Pararddhi), the Supremely Clear (Paramaspashta), the Content (Tushta), the Nourished (Pushta), and of auspicious glance (Shubhekshana).
रामो विरामो विरजो मार्गो नेयो नयोऽनयः । (विरामो विरतो)
वीरः शक्तिमतां श्रेष्ठो धर्मो धर्मविदुत्तमः ॥ ४३॥
The Delighter (Rama), the Cessation (Virama), the Passionless (Viraja), the Path (Marga), the Guide (Neya), the Leader (Naya), the Unled (Anaya), the Hero (Vira), the Best among the powerful (Shaktimatam Shreshtha), the Dharma (Dharma), and the Best among knowers of Dharma (Dharmaviduttama).
वैकुण्ठः पुरुषः प्राणः प्राणदः प्रणवः पृथुः ।
हिरण्यगर्भः शत्रुघ्नो व्याप्तो वायुरधोक्षजः ॥ ४४॥
The Remover of obstacles (Vaikuntha), the Supreme Person (Purusha), the Life (Prana), the Giver of life (Pranada), the sacred syllable Om (Pranava), the Vast (Prithu), the Golden Womb (Hiranyagarbha), the Slayer of enemies (Shatrughna), the Pervader (Vyapta), the Wind (Vayu), and the Transcendental (Adhokshaja).
ऋतुः सुदर्शनः कालः परमेष्ठी परिग्रहः ।
उग्रः संवत्सरो दक्षो विश्रामो विश्वदक्षिणः ॥ ४५॥
The Season (Ritu), of auspicious vision (Sudarshana), the Time (Kala), stationed in the highest abode (Parameshti), the Receiver (Parigraha), the Fierce (Ugra), the Year (Samvatsara), the Skilful (Daksha), the Resting Place (Vishrama), and the Universally Capable (Vishvadakshina).
विस्तारः स्थावरस्थाणुः प्रमाणं बीजमव्ययम् ।
अर्थोऽनर्थो महाकोशो महाभोगो महाधनः ॥ ४६॥
The Extension (Vistara), the Immovable Pillar (Sthavarasthanu), the Authority (Pramanam), the Imperishable Seed (Bijamavyayam), the Meaning/Wealth (Artha), the Meaningless/Desireless (Anartha), the Great Treasure (Mahakosha), the Great Enjoyment (Mahabhoga), and the Great Wealth (Mahadhana).
अनिर्विण्णः स्थविष्ठोऽभूर्धर्मयूपो महामखः ।
नक्षत्रनेमिर्नक्षत्री क्षमः क्षामः समीहनः ॥ ४७॥
The Unwearied (Anirvinna), the Immense (Sthavishtha), the Unborn (Abhu), the Pillar of Dharma (Dharmayupa), the Great Sacrifice (Mahamakha), the Nave of the wheel of stars (Nakshatranemi), the Lord of stars (Nakshatri), the Forgiving (Kshama), the Diminished/Dwelling in all (Kshama), and the Well-wisher (Samihana).
यज्ञ इज्यो महेज्यश्च क्रतुः सत्रं सतां गतिः ।
सर्वदर्शी विमुक्तात्मा सर्वज्ञो ज्ञानमुत्तमम् ॥ ४८॥
The Sacrifice (Yajna), the Worshipful (Ijya), the Most Worshipful (Mahejya), the Ritual (Kratu), the Protector of the good (Satram), the Goal of the good (Satam Gati), the All-Seeing (Sarvadarshi), the Liberated Soul (Vimuktatma), the All-Knowing (Sarvajna), and the Supreme Knowledge (Jnanamuttamam).
सुव्रतः सुमुखः सूक्ष्मः सुघोषः सुखदः सुहृत् ।
मनोहरो जितक्रोधो वीरबाहुर्विदारणः ॥ ४९॥
Of excellent vows (Suvrata), of auspicious face (Sumukha), the Subtle (Sukshma), of auspicious sound (Sughosha), the Giver of happiness (Sukhada), the Good Heart/Friend (Suhrit), the Mind-stealer (Manohara), the Conqueror of anger (Jitakrodha), of heroic arms (Virabahu), and the Tearer of enemies (Vidarana).
स्वापनः स्ववशो व्यापी नैकात्मा नैककर्मकृत् ।
वत्सरो वत्सलो वत्सी रत्नगर्भो धनेश्वरः ॥ ५०॥
The Sender of sleep (Svapana), Independent (Svavasha), the Pervader (Vyapi), of manifold souls (Naikatma), of manifold actions (Naikakarmakrit), the Abode/Year (Vatsara), the Affectionate (Vatsala), the Father (Vatsi), the Womb of gems (Ratnagarbha), and the Lord of wealth (Dhaneshvara).
धर्मगुब्धर्मकृद्धर्मी सदसत्क्षरमक्षरम् ।
अविज्ञाता सहस्रांशुर्विधाता कृतलक्षणः ॥ ५१॥
The Protector of Dharma (Dharmagup), the Creator of Dharma (Dharmakrit), the Righteous (Dharmi), the True and the Untrue (Sadasat), the Perishable and the Imperishable (Ksharamaksharam), the Unknown (Avijnata), the Thousand-rayed (Sahasramshu), the Creator (Vidhata), and of defined characteristics (Kritalakshana).
गभस्तिनेमिः सत्त्वस्थः सिंहो भूतमहेश्वरः ।
आदिदेवो महादेवो देवेशो देवभृद्गुरुः ॥ ५२॥
The Center of the planetary system (Gabhastinemi), established in goodness (Sattvastha), the Lion (Simha), the Supreme Lord of beings (Bhutamaheshvara), the Primal God (Adideva), the Greatest God (Mahadeva), the Lord of gods (Devesha), and the Supporter and Teacher of gods (Devabhritguru).
उत्तरो गोपतिर्गोप्ता ज्ञानगम्यः पुरातनः ।
शरीरभूतभृद्भोक्ता कपीन्द्रो भूरिदक्षिणः ॥ ५३॥
The Rescuer (Uttara), the Lord of cows/rays (Gopati), the Protector (Gopta), reachable by knowledge (Jnanagamya), the Ancient (Puratana), the Supporter of bodies and elements (Sharirabhutabhrit), the Enjoyer (Bhokta), the Lord of monkeys (Kapindra), and the Giver of abundant dakshina (Bhuridakshina).
सोमपोऽमृतपः सोमः पुरुजित्पुरुसत्तमः ।
विनयो जयः सत्यसन्धो दाशार्हः सात्वताम्पतिः ॥ ५४॥ विनियोज्यः
The Drinker of Soma (Somapa), the Drinker of Nectar (Amritapa), the Moon (Soma), the Conqueror of many (Purujit), the Best of the great (Purusattama), the Subduer (Vinaya), the Victory (Jaya), of truthful resolve (Satyasandha), worthy of gifts (Dasharha), and the Lord of the Satvatas (Satvatampati).
जीवो विनयिता साक्षी मुकुन्दोऽमितविक्रमः ।
अम्भोनिधिरनन्तात्मा महोदधिशयोऽन्तकः ॥ ५५॥
The Living Soul (Jiva), the Director (Vinayita), the Witness (Sakshi), the Bestower of liberation (Mukunda), of infinite valor (Amitavikrama), the Ocean (Ambhonidhi), of infinite soul (Anantatma), resting on the great ocean (Mahodadhishaya), and the Destroyer (Antaka).
अजो महार्हः स्वाभाव्यो जितामित्रः प्रमोदनः ।
आनन्दो नन्दनो नन्दः सत्यधर्मा त्रिविक्रमः ॥ ५६॥
The Unborn (Aja), extremely worthy of reverence (Maharha), the intrinsic nature (Svabhavya), the Conqueror of enemies (Jitamitra), the Gladdener (Pramodana), the Bliss (Ananda), the Giver of Joy (Nandana), the Joy (Nanda), of truthful Dharma (Satyadharma), and of three strides (Trivikrama).
महर्षिः कपिलाचार्यः कृतज्ञो मेदिनीपतिः ।
त्रिपदस्त्रिदशाध्यक्षो महाशृङ्गः कृतान्तकृत् ॥ ५७॥
The Great Sage Kapila (Maharshi Kapilacharya), the Grateful (Kritajna), the Lord of the earth (Medinipati), of three steps (Tripada), the Supervisor of the gods (Tridashadhyaksha), of great horn (Mahashringa), and the Creator of the end (Kritantakrit).
महावराहो गोविन्दः सुषेणः कनकाङ्गदी ।
गुह्यो गभीरो गहनो गुप्तश्चक्रगदाधरः ॥ ५८॥
The Great Boar (Mahavaraha), the Rescuer of the earth (Govinda), having a beautiful army (Sushena), wearing golden armlets (Kanakangadi), the Secret (Guhya), the Deep (Gabhira), the Inscrutable (Gahana), the Hidden (Gupta), and the Wielder of the Discus and Mace (Chakragadadhara).
वेधाः स्वाङ्गोऽजितः कृष्णो दृढः सङ्कर्षणोऽच्युतः ।
वरुणो वारुणो वृक्षः पुष्कराक्षो महामनाः ॥ ५९॥
The Creator (Vedha), with beautiful limbs (Svanga), the Invincible (Ajita), the Dark-complexioned (Krishna), the Firm (Dridha), the Attractor (Sankarshana), the Infallible (Achyuta), the God of Waters (Varuna), the son of Varuna (Varuna), the Tree (Vriksha), the Lotus-eyed (Pushkaraksha), and of great mind (Mahamana).
भगवान् भगहाऽऽनन्दी वनमाली हलायुधः ।
आदित्यो ज्योतिरादित्यः सहिष्णुर्गतिसत्तमः ॥ ६०॥
The Divine Lord (Bhagavan), the Destroyer of wealth/sins (Bhagaha), the Blissful (Anandi), wearing a garland of forest flowers (Vanamali), wielding a plow (Halayudha), the Son of Aditi (Aditya), the Radiant Sun (Jyotiraditya), the Enduring (Sahishnu), and the Ultimate Goal (Gatisattama).
सुधन्वा खण्डपरशुर्दारुणो द्रविणप्रदः ।
दिवस्पृक् सर्वदृग्व्यासो वाचस्पतिरयोनिजः ॥ ६१॥ (दिविस्पृक्)
Bearing an auspicious bow (Sudhanva), with a broken axe (Khandaparashu), the Fierce (Daruna), the Bestower of wealth (Dravinaprada), touching the heavens (Divisprik), the All-seeing (Sarvadrik), Vyasa (Vyasa), the Lord of Speech (Vachaspati), and the Unborn (Ayonija).
त्रिसामा सामगः साम निर्वाणं भेषजं भिषक् ।
संन्यासकृच्छमः शान्तो निष्ठा शान्तिः परायणम् ॥ ६२॥
Praised by three Samans (Trisama), the Singer of Sama (Samaga), the Sama Veda (Sama), the Liberation (Nirvanam), the Medicine (Bheshajam), the Physician (Bhishak), the Creator of Sannyasa (Sannyasakrit), the Peaceful (Shama), the Calm (Shanta), the Firm Foundation (Nishtha), the Peace (Shanti), and the Ultimate Goal (Parayanam).
शुभाङ्गः शान्तिदः स्रष्टा कुमुदः कुवलेशयः ।
गोहितो गोपतिर्गोप्ता वृषभाक्षो वृषप्रियः ॥ ६३॥
With beautiful limbs (Shubhanga), the Giver of Peace (Shantida), the Creator (Srashta), delighting in the earth (Kumuda), resting in the waters (Kuvaleshaya), the Benefactor of cows (Gohita), the Lord of cows (Gopati), the Protector (Gopta), with showering eyes (Vrishabhaksha), and the Lover of Dharma (Vrishapriya).
अनिवर्ती निवृत्तात्मा सङ्क्षेप्ता क्षेमकृच्छिवः ।
श्रीवत्सवक्षाः श्रीवासः श्रीपतिः श्रीमतांवरः ॥ ६४॥
The Un-retreating (Anivarti), the Detached Soul (Nivrittatma), the Condenser (Sankshepta), the Doer of Good (Kshemakrit), the Auspicious (Shiva), with the Srivatsa mark on His chest (Shrivatsavaksha), the Abode of Lakshmi (Shrivasa), the Lord of Lakshmi (Shripati), and the Best among the glorious (Shrimatamvara).
श्रीदः श्रीशः श्रीनिवासः श्रीनिधिः श्रीविभावनः ।
श्रीधरः श्रीकरः श्रेयः श्रीमाँल्लोकत्रयाश्रयः ॥ ६५॥
The Giver of Wealth (Shrida), the Lord of Wealth (Shrisha), the Abode of Wealth (Shrinivasa), the Treasure of Wealth (Shrinidhi), the Distributor of Wealth (Shrivibhavana), the Bearer of Wealth (Shridhara), the Creator of Wealth (Shrikara), the Supreme Good (Shreya), and the Refuge of the three worlds containing Lakshmi (Shriman-Lokatrayashraya).
स्वक्षः स्वङ्गः शतानन्दो नन्दिर्ज्योतिर्गणेश्वरः ।
विजितात्माऽविधेयात्मा सत्कीर्तिश्छिन्नसंशयः ॥ ६६॥
With beautiful eyes (Svaksha), with beautiful limbs (Svanga), of hundredfold bliss (Shatananda), the Infinite Bliss (Nandi), the Lord of luminous bodies (Jyotirganeshvara), of conquered mind (Vijitatma), of uncontrolled soul/Independent (Avidheyatma), of pure fame (Satkirti), and the Destroyer of doubts (Chhinnasamshaya).
उदीर्णः सर्वतश्चक्षुरनीशः शाश्वतस्थिरः ।
भूशयो भूषणो भूतिर्विशोकः शोकनाशनः ॥ ६७॥
The Exalted (Udirna), with eyes everywhere (Sarvatashchakshu), having no superior (Anisha), the Eternal and Firm (Shashvatasthira), resting on the earth (Bhushaya), the Adornment (Bhushana), the Prosperity (Bhuti), the Sorrowless (Vishoka), and the Destroyer of sorrow (Shokanashana).
अर्चिष्मानर्चितः कुम्भो विशुद्धात्मा विशोधनः ।
अनिरुद्धोऽप्रतिरथः प्रद्युम्नोऽमितविक्रमः ॥ ६८॥
The Radiant (Archishman), the Worshipped (Archita), the Pot/Container of the universe (Kumbha), of pure soul (Vishuddhatma), the Purifier (Vishodhana), the Unobstructed (Aniruddha), without an equal opponent (Apratiratha), of immense wealth (Pradyumna), and of infinite valor (Amitavikrama).
कालनेमिनिहा वीरः शौरिः शूरजनेश्वरः ।
त्रिलोकात्मा त्रिलोकेशः केशवः केशिहा हरिः ॥ ६९॥
The Slayer of Kalanemi (Kalaneminiha), the Hero (Vira), the Descendant of Shura (Shauri), the Valiant Lord of people (Shurajaneshvara), the Soul of the three worlds (Trilokatma), the Lord of the three worlds (Trilokesha), the Slayer of Keshi/with beautiful hair (Keshava), the Slayer of Keshi (Keshiha), and the Destroyer of sins (Hari).
कामदेवः कामपालः कामी कान्तः कृतागमः ।
अनिर्देश्यवपुर्विष्णुर्वीरोऽनन्तो धनञ्जयः ॥ ७०॥
The Lord of desires (Kamadeva), the Protector of desires (Kamapala), the Desirous/Fulfiller (Kami), the Beautiful/Beloved (Kanta), the Author of Agamas (Kritagama), of indescribable form (Anirdeshyavapu), the All-pervading (Vishnu), the Hero (Vira), the Infinite (Ananta), and the Winner of wealth (Dhananjaya).
ब्रह्मण्यो ब्रह्मकृद् ब्रह्मा ब्रह्म ब्रह्मविवर्धनः ।
ब्रह्मविद् ब्राह्मणो ब्रह्मी ब्रह्मज्ञो ब्राह्मणप्रियः ॥ ७१॥
The Lover of Brahman/Vedas (Brahmanya), the Creator of Brahma (Brahmakrit), Brahma (Brahma), the Supreme Brahman (Brahma), the Increaser of Brahman (Brahmavivardhana), the Knower of Brahman (Brahmavit), the Brahmana (Brahmana), the Possessor of Brahman (Brahmi), the Knower of Brahman (Bmahmajna), and the Lover of Brahmanas (Brahmanapriya).
महाक्रमो महाकर्मा महातेजा महोरगः ।
महाक्रतुर्महायज्वा महायज्ञो महाहविः ॥ ७२॥
Of great strides (Mahakrama), of great actions (Mahakarma), of great brilliance (Mahateja), the Great Serpent (Mahoraga), the Great Sacrifice (Mahakratu), the Great Sacrificer (Mahayajva), the Great Ritual (Mahayajna), and the Great Oblation (Mahahavi).
स्तव्यः स्तवप्रियः स्तोत्रं स्तुतिः स्तोता रणप्रियः ।
पूर्णः पूरयिता पुण्यः पुण्यकीर्तिरनामयः ॥ ७३॥
Worthy of praise (Stavya), Lover of praise (Stavapriya), the Hymn (Stotram), the Act of praise (Stuti), the Praiser (Stota), Lover of battle (Ranapriya), the Complete/Full (Purna), the Fulfiller (Purayita), the Holy (Punya), of holy fame (Punyakirti), and free from diseases (Anamaya).
मनोजवस्तीर्थकरो वसुरेता वसुप्रदः ।
वसुप्रदो वासुदेवो वसुर्वसुमना हविः ॥ ७४॥
Swift as the mind (Manojava), the Creator of holy places (Tirthakara), of golden seed (Vasureta), the Giver of wealth (Vasuprada), the Bestower of wealth (Vasuprada), the Son of Vasudeva (Vasudeva), the Refuge/Wealth (Vasu), of pure mind (Vasumana), and the Oblation (Havi).
सद्गतिः सत्कृतिः सत्ता सद्भूतिः सत्परायणः ।
शूरसेनो यदुश्रेष्ठः सन्निवासः सुयामुनः ॥ ७५॥
The Righteous Goal (Sadgati), the Righteous Action (Satkriti), the True Existence (Satta), the Righteous Prosperity (Sadbhuti), the Supreme Goal of the good (Satparayana), having a valiant army (Shurasena), the Best of the Yadus (Yadushreshtha), the Abode of the good (Sannivasa), and surrounded by the Yamuna (Suyamuna).
भूतावासो वासुदेवः सर्वासुनिलयोऽनलः ।
दर्पहा दर्पदो दृप्तो दुर्धरोऽथापराजितः ॥ ७६॥
The Abode of beings (Bhutavasa), the Indwelling Lord (Vasudeva), the Resting place of all souls (Sarvasunilaya), the Fire/Infinite (Anala), the Destroyer of pride (Darpaha), the Giver of pride (Darpada), the Proud/Joyous (Dripta), the Irresistible (Durdhara), and the Undefeated (Aparajita).
विश्वमूर्तिर्महामूर्तिर्दीप्तमूर्तिरमूर्तिमान् ।
अनेकमूर्तिरव्यक्तः शतमूर्तिः शताननः ॥ ७७॥
The Form of the Universe (Vishvamurti), of Great Form (Mahamurti), of Radiant Form (Diptamurti), the Formless (Amurtiman), of manifold forms (Anekamurti), the Unmanifest (Avyakta), of a hundred forms (Shatamurti), and of a hundred faces (Shatananah).
एको नैकः सवः कः किं यत् तत्पदमनुत्तमम् ।
लोकबन्धुर्लोकनाथो माधवो भक्तवत्सलः ॥ ७८॥
The One (Eka), the Many (Naika), the Sacrifice (Sava), Who/Happiness (Ka), What (Kim), That (Yat), the Supreme State (Tatpadamanuttamam), the Friend of the world (Lokabandhu), the Lord of the world (Lokanatha), the Lord of Knowledge (Madhava), and the Lover of devotees (Bhaktavatsala).
सुवर्णवर्णो हेमाङ्गो वराङ्गश्चन्दनाङ्गदी ।
वीरहा विषमः शून्यो घृताशीरचलश्चलः ॥ ७९॥
Of golden color (Suvarnavarna), with golden limbs (Hemanga), with beautiful limbs (Varanga), adorned with sandalwood armlets (Chandanangadi), the Slayer of heroic demons (Viraha), the Unequal (Vishama), the Void (Shunya), the Bestower of desires (Ghritashi), the Immovable (Achala), and the Moving (Chala).
अमानी मानदो मान्यो लोकस्वामी त्रिलोकधृक् ।
सुमेधा मेधजो धन्यः सत्यमेधा धराधरः ॥ ८०॥
Free from false ego (Amani), the Giver of honor (Manada), the Honorable (Manya), the Master of the world (Lokasvami), the Supporter of the three worlds (Trilokadhrik), of excellent intelligence (Sumedha), born of sacrifice (Medhaja), the Fortunate (Dhanya), of true intelligence (Satyamedha), and the Supporter of the Earth (Dharadhara).
तेजोवृषो द्युतिधरः सर्वशस्त्रभृतां वरः ।
प्रग्रहो निग्रहो व्यग्रो नैकशृङ्गो गदाग्रजः ॥ ८१॥
Showering radiance (Tejovrisha), bearing radiance (Dyutidhara), the Best among wielders of weapons (Sarvashastrabhritam Vara), the Receiver/Controller (Pragraha), the Restrainer (Nigraha), the Intent (Vyagra), with many peaks (Naikashringa), and the elder brother of Gada (Gadagraja).
चतुर्मूर्तिश्चतुर्बाहुश्चतुर्व्यूहश्चतुर्गतिः ।
चतुरात्मा चतुर्भावश्चतुर्वेदविदेकपात् ॥ ८२॥
Of four forms (Chaturmurti), of four arms (Chaturbahu), of four manifestations (Chaturvyuha), the Fourfold Goal (Chaturgati), the Four-souled (Chaturatma), of four states (Chaturbhava), the Knower of the four Vedas (Chaturvedavit), and the One-footed (Ekapada).
समावर्तोऽनिवृत्तात्मा दुर्जयो दुरतिक्रमः ।
दुर्लभो दुर्गमो दुर्गो दुरावासो दुरारिहा ॥ ८३॥
The Whirlpool/Turner of Samsara (Samavarta), the Un-retreating soul (Anivrittatma), the Invincible (Durjaya), the Unsurpassable (Duratikrama), the Difficult to attain (Durlabha), the Difficult to access (Durgama), the Fortress (Durga), of inaccessible abode (Duravasa), and the Slayer of formidable enemies (Durariha).
शुभाङ्गो लोकसारङ्गः सुतन्तुस्तन्तुवर्धनः ।
इन्द्रकर्मा महाकर्मा कृतकर्मा कृतागमः ॥ ८४॥
With beautiful limbs (Shubhanga), the Essence of the worlds (Lokasaranga), the Beautiful Thread (Sutantu), the Increaser of the thread/lineage (Tantuvardhana), of acts like Indra (Indrakarma), of great acts (Mahakarma), the Accomplished (Kritakarma), and the Author of Agamas (Kritagama).
उद्भवः सुन्दरः सुन्दो रत्ननाभः सुलोचनः ।
अर्को वाजसनः शृङ्गी जयन्तः सर्वविज्जयी ॥ ८५॥
The Source (Udbhava), the Beautiful (Sundara), the Merciful (Sunda), of gem-like navel (Ratnanabha), of beautiful eyes (Sulochanah), the Sun/Worshipped (Arka), the Giver of food (Vajasana), having a horn (Shringi), the Victorious (Jayanta), the All-knowing (Sarvavit), and the Conqueror (Jayi).
सुवर्णबिन्दुरक्षोभ्यः सर्ववागीश्वरेश्वरः ।
महाह्रदो महागर्तो महाभूतो महानिधिः ॥ ८६॥
Of golden limbs/syllables (Suvarnabindu), the Unshakable (Akshobhya), the Lord of the Lords of Speech (Sarvavagishvareshvara), the Great Lake (Mahahrada), the Great Chasm (Mahagarta), the Great Being (Mahabhuta), and the Great Treasure (Mahanidhi).
कुमुदः कुन्दरः कुन्दः पर्जन्यः पावनोऽनिलः ।
अमृताशोऽमृतवपुः सर्वज्ञः सर्वतोमुखः ॥ ८७॥
The Gladdener of the Earth (Kumuda), the Tearer of the earth (Kundara), the Giver of jasmine-like purity (Kunda), the Rain-cloud (Parjanya), the Purifier (Pavana), the Wind (Anila), the Eater of Nectar (Amritasha), of immortal body (Amritavapu), the All-knowing (Sarvajna), and facing everywhere (Sarvatomukha).
सुलभः सुव्रतः सिद्धः शत्रुजिच्छत्रुतापनः ।
न्यग्रोधोऽदुम्बरोऽश्वत्थश्चाणूरान्ध्रनिषूदनः ॥ ८८॥
The Easily Attainable (Sulabha), of excellent vows (Suvrata), the Perfected (Siddha), the Conqueror of enemies (Shatrujit), the Tormentor of enemies (Shatrutapana), the Banyan Tree (Nyagrodha), the Fig Tree (Udumbara), the Peepal Tree (Ashvattha), and the Slayer of Chanura and Andhra (Chanurandhranishudana).
सहस्रार्चिः सप्तजिह्वः सप्तैधाः सप्तवाहनः ।
अमूर्तिरनघोऽचिन्त्यो भयकृद्भयनाशनः ॥ ८९॥
Of a thousand rays (Sahasrarchi), the Seven-tongued (Saptajihva), the Seven-flamed (Saptaidha), having seven vehicles (Saptavahana), the Formless (Amurti), the Sinless (Anagha), the Inconceivable (Achintya), the Creator of fear (Bhayakrit), and the Destroyer of fear (Bhayanashana).
अणुर्बृहत्कृशः स्थूलो गुणभृन्निर्गुणो महान् ।
अधृतः स्वधृतः स्वास्यः प्राग्वंशो वंशवर्धनः ॥ ९०॥
The Atom (Anu), the Immense (Brihat), the Lean (Krisha), the Stout (Sthula), the Bearer of qualities (Gunabhrit), the Attribute-less (Nirguna), the Great (Mahan), the Unsupported (Adhrita), the Self-supported (Svadhrita), with a beautiful face (Svasya), the Primal Ancestor (Pragvamsha), and the Increaser of the lineage (Vamshavardhana).
भारभृत् कथितो योगी योगीशः सर्वकामदः ।
आश्रमः श्रमणः क्षामः सुपर्णो वायुवाहनः ॥ ९१॥
The Bearer of the burden (Bharabhrit), the Declared/Praised (Kathita), the Yogi (Yogi), the Lord of Yogis (Yogisha), the Giver of all desires (Sarvakamada), the Hermitage/Rest (Ashrama), the Ascetic (Shramana), the Diminished (Kshama), of beautiful wings (Suparna), and having the wind as a vehicle (Vayuvahana).
धनुर्धरो धनुर्वेदो दण्डो दमयिता दमः ।
अपराजितः सर्वसहो नियन्ताऽनियमोऽयमः ॥ ९२॥
The Wielder of the bow (Dhanurdhara), the Science of Archery (Dhanurveda), the Punishing Rod (Danda), the Punisher (Damayita), the Punishment (Dama), the Undefeated (Aparajita), the Endurer of all (Sarvasaha), the Controller (Niyanta), the Unbound (Aniyama), and the Deathless (Ayama).
सत्त्ववान् सात्त्विकः सत्यः सत्यधर्मपरायणः ।
अभिप्रायः प्रियार्होऽर्हः प्रियकृत् प्रीतिवर्धनः ॥ ९३॥
Endowed with goodness (Sattvavan), the Pure/Sattvic (Sattvika), the Truth (Satya), devoted to True Dharma (Satyadharmaparayana), the Ultimate Object of desire (Abhipraya), Worthy of love (Priyarha), the Deserving (Arha), the Doer of what is pleasant (Priyakrit), and the Increaser of joy (Pritivardhana).
विहायसगतिर्ज्योतिः सुरुचिर्हुतभुग्विभुः ।
रविर्विरोचनः सूर्यः सविता रविलोचनः ॥ ९४॥
Moving in the sky (Vihayasagati), the Light (Jyoti), of beautiful brilliance (Suruchi), the Fire (Hutabhuk), the All-pervading (Vibhu), the Sun (Ravi), the Illuminator (Virochana), the Sun (Surya), the Creator (Savita), and having the sun as an eye (Ravilochana).
अनन्तो हुतभुग्भोक्ता सुखदो नैकजोऽग्रजः ।
अनिर्विण्णः सदामर्षी लोकाधिष्ठानमद्भुतः ॥ ९५॥
The Infinite (Ananta), the Eater of oblations (Hutabhuk), the Enjoyer (Bhokta), the Giver of happiness (Sukhada), born many times (Naikaja), the First-born (Agraja), the Unwearied (Anirvinna), the Ever-patient (Sadamarshi), the Foundation of the worlds (Lokadhishthana), and the Wonderful (Adbhuta).
सनात्सनातनतमः कपिलः कपिरव्ययः ।
स्वस्तिदः स्वस्तिकृत्स्वस्ति स्वस्तिभुक्स्वस्तिदक्षिणः ॥ ९६॥
The Ancient (Sanat), the Most Ancient (Sanatanatama), the Sage Kapila (Kapila), the Sun/Monkey (Kapi), the Imperishable (Avyaya), the Giver of Auspiciousness (Svastida), the Doer of Auspiciousness (Svastikrit), the Auspiciousness (Svasti), the Enjoyer of Auspiciousness (Svastibhuk), and the Skilful in Auspiciousness (Svastidakshina).
अरौद्रः कुण्डली चक्री विक्रम्यूर्जितशासनः ।
शब्दातिगः शब्दसहः शिशिरः शर्वरीकरः ॥ ९७॥
The Non-fierce (Araudra), wearing earrings (Kundali), wielding the discus (Chakri), the Valiant (Vikrami), of rigorous commands (Urjitashasana), transcending words (Shabdatiga), enduring words (Shabdasaha), the Winter/Cool (Shishira), and the Creator of the night (Sharvarikara).
अक्रूरः पेशलो दक्षो दक्षिणः क्षमिणांवरः ।
विद्वत्तमो वीतभयः पुण्यश्रवणकीर्तनः ॥ ९८॥
The Non-cruel (Akrura), the Beautiful/Tender (Peshala), the Skilful (Daksha), the Gracious (Dakshina), the Best of the forgiving (Kshaminamvara), the Supreme Scholar (Vidvattama), free from fear (Vitabhaya), and whose names are holy to hear and recite (Punyashravanakirtana).
उत्तारणो दुष्कृतिहा पुण्यो दुःस्वप्ननाशनः ।
वीरहा रक्षणः सन्तो जीवनः पर्यवस्थितः ॥ ९९॥
The Savior (Uttarana), the Destroyer of evil deeds (Dushkritiha), the Holy (Punya), the Destroyer of bad dreams (Duhsvapnanashana), the Slayer of heroic demons (Viraha), the Protector (Rakshana), the Good (Santa), the Life (Jivana), and the All-pervading (Paryavasthita).
अनन्तरूपोऽनन्तश्रीर्जितमन्युर्भयापहः ।
चतुरश्रो गभीरात्मा विदिशो व्यादिशो दिशः ॥ १००॥
Of infinite forms (Anantarupa), of infinite glory (Anantashri), the Conqueror of anger (Jitamanyu), the Destroyer of fear (Bhayapaha), the Square/Just (Chaturashra), of deep soul (Gabhiratma), the Distributor of directions (Vidisha), the Commander (Vyadisha), and the Directions (Disha).
अनादिर्भूर्भुवो लक्ष्मीः सुवीरो रुचिराङ्गदः ।
जननो जनजन्मादिर्भीमो भीमपराक्रमः ॥ १०१॥
The Beginningless (Anadi), the Lord of the Earth and Heaven (Bhurbhuvo), Lakshmi/Wealth (Lakshmi), of excellent valor (Suvira), wearing beautiful armlets (Ruchirangada), the Creator (Janana), the First of all births (Janajanmadi), the Formidable (Bhima), and of formidable valor (Bhimaparakrama).
आधारनिलयोऽधाता पुष्पहासः प्रजागरः ।
ऊर्ध्वगः सत्पथाचारः प्राणदः प्रणवः पणः ॥ १०२॥
The Foundation (Adhara), the Abode (Nilaya), the Un-supported (Adhata), having flowers as his smile (Pushpahasa), the Ever-awake (Prajagara), moving upwards (Urdhvaga), walking the path of truth (Satpathachara), the Giver of life (Pranada), the sacred syllable Om (Pranava), and the Supreme Manager (Pana).
प्रमाणं प्राणनिलयः प्राणभृत्प्राणजीवनः ।
तत्त्वं तत्त्वविदेकात्मा जन्ममृत्युजरातिगः ॥ १०३॥
The Authority (Pramanam), the Abode of Life (Prananilaya), the Supporter of Life (Pranabhrit), the Enlivener (Pranajivana), the Truth (Tattva), the Knower of Truth (Tattvavit), the Single Soul (Ekatma), and transcending birth, death, and old age (Janmamrityujaratiga).
भूर्भुवःस्वस्तरुस्तारः सविता प्रपितामहः ।
यज्ञो यज्ञपतिर्यज्वा यज्ञाङ्गो यज्ञवाहनः ॥ १०४॥
The Tree of the three worlds (Bhurbhuvasvastaru), the Rescuer (Tara), the Creator/Sun (Savita), the Great Grandfather (Prapitamaha), the Sacrifice (Yajna), the Lord of Sacrifices (Yajnapati), the Sacrificer (Yajva), the Limbs of Sacrifice (Yajnanga), and the Carrier of Sacrifice (Yajnavahana).
यज्ञभृद् यज्ञकृद् यज्ञी यज्ञभुग् यज्ञसाधनः ।
यज्ञान्तकृद् यज्ञगुह्यमन्नमन्नाद एव च ॥ १०५॥
The Bearer of Sacrifice (Yajnabhrit), the Performer of Sacrifice (Yajnakrit), the Principle of Sacrifice (Yajni), the Enjoyer of Sacrifice (Yajnabhuk), the Means of Sacrifice (Yajnasadhana), the Finisher of Sacrifice (Yajnantakrit), the Secret of Sacrifice (Yajnaguhyam), the Food (Annam), and the Eater of Food (Annada).
आत्मयोनिः स्वयञ्जातो वैखानः सामगायनः ।
देवकीनन्दनः स्रष्टा क्षितीशः पापनाशनः ॥ १०६॥
The Self-caused (Atmayoni), the Self-born (Svayamjata), the Piercer of the earth/Vaikhanasa (Vaikhana), the Singer of Sama (Samagayana), the Son of Devaki (Devakinandana), the Creator (Srashta), the Lord of the Earth (Kshitisha), and the Destroyer of Sins (Papanashana).
शङ्खभृन्नन्दकी चक्री शार्ङ्गधन्वा गदाधरः ।
रथाङ्गपाणिरक्षोभ्यः सर्वप्रहरणायुधः ॥ १०७॥
Holding the Conch, the Nandaka sword, and the Discus (Shankhabhrinnandakichakri), Wielding the Sharnga bow and the Mace (Sharngadhanva Gadadhara), holding the Discus in hand, the Unshakable (Rathangapanirakshobhya), and having all weapons for striking (Sarvapraharanayudha).
सर्वप्रहरणायुध ॐ नम इति ।
वनमाली गदी शार्ङ्गी शङ्खी चक्री च नन्दकी ।
श्रीमान् नारायणो विष्णुर्वासुदेवोऽभिरक्षतु ॥ १०८॥
Om, Salutations to the One who wields all weapons. Adorned with a garland of forest flowers, holding a mace, a Sharnga bow, a conch, a discus, and the Nandaka sword, may the glorious Narayana, Vishnu, Vasudeva, protect us.
श्रीवासुदेवोऽभिरक्षतु ॐ नम इति ।
उत्तरन्यासः, फलश्रुतिः
May the glorious Vasudeva protect us. Om, Salutations.

भीष्म उवाच---
इतीदं कीर्तनीयस्य केशवस्य महात्मनः ।
नाम्नां सहस्रं दिव्यानामशेषेण प्रकीर्तितम् ॥ १॥
Bhishma said: Thus, the thousand divine names of the great-souled Keshava, who is worthy of being glorified, have been completely recounted.
य इदं शृणुयान्नित्यं यश्चापि परिकीर्तयेत् ।
नाशुभं प्राप्नुयात्किञ्चित्सोऽमुत्रेह च मानवः ॥ २॥
That human being who hears this daily and who also recites it, will not attain any inauspiciousness or misfortune whatsoever, either here or in the next world.
वेदान्तगो ब्राह्मणः स्यात्क्षत्रियो विजयी भवेत् ।
वैश्यो धनसमृद्धः स्याच्छूद्रः सुखमवाप्नुयात् ॥ ३॥
A Brahmana will become a master of Vedanta; a Kshatriya will become victorious; a Vaishya will become prosperous in wealth; and a Shudra will attain happiness.
धर्मार्थी प्राप्नुयाद्धर्ममर्थार्थी चार्थमाप्नुयात् ।
कामानवाप्नुयात्कामी प्रजार्थी प्राप्नुयात्प्रजाम् ॥ ४॥
One seeking dharma will attain dharma; one seeking wealth will attain wealth; a seeker of desires will attain his desires; and one seeking progeny will attain progeny.
भक्तिमान् यः सदोत्थाय शुचिस्तद्गतमानसः ।
सहस्रं वासुदेवस्य नाम्नामेतत्प्रकीर्तयेत् ॥ ५॥
A devoted person, always getting up, purifying himself, and fixing his mind on Him, who recites this thousand names of Vasudeva...
यशः प्राप्नोति विपुलं ज्ञातिप्राधान्यमेव च ।
अचलां श्रियमाप्नोति श्रेयः प्राप्नोत्यनुत्तमम् ॥ ६॥
...Attains great fame and prominence among his kinsmen. He attains unshakable wealth and achieves the highest good.
न भयं क्वचिदाप्नोति वीर्यं तेजश्च विन्दति ।
भवत्यरोगो द्युतिमान्बलरूपगुणान्वितः ॥ ७॥
He does not attain fear anywhere, and acquires valor and energy. He becomes free from diseases, radiant, and endowed with strength, beauty, and good qualities.
रोगार्तो मुच्यते रोगाद्बद्धो मुच्येत बन्धनात् ।
भयान्मुच्येत भीतस्तु मुच्येतापन्न आपदः ॥ ८॥
The diseased is freed from disease; the bound is freed from bondage; the frightened is freed from fear; and the one in trouble is freed from troubles.
दुर्गाण्यतितरत्याशु पुरुषः पुरुषोत्तमम् ।
स्तुवन्नामसहस्रेण नित्यं भक्तिसमन्वितः ॥ ९॥
A person quickly crosses over difficulties by always praising the Supreme Purusha with these thousand names with devotion.
वासुदेवाश्रयो मर्त्यो वासुदेवपरायणः ।
सर्वपापविशुद्धात्मा याति ब्रह्म सनातनम् ॥ १०॥
A mortal who takes refuge in Vasudeva and is devoted to Vasudeva, becomes purified of all sins and attains the eternal Brahman.
न वासुदेवभक्तानामशुभं विद्यते क्वचित् ।
जन्ममृत्युजराव्याधिभयं नैवोपजायते ॥ ११॥
There is never any inauspiciousness anywhere for the devotees of Vasudeva. The fear of birth, death, old age, and disease does not arise for them.
इमं स्तवमधीयानः श्रद्धाभक्तिसमन्वितः ।
युज्येतात्मसुखक्षान्तिश्रीधृतिस्मृतिकीर्तिभिः ॥ १२॥
One who studies this hymn, endowed with faith and devotion, becomes united with happiness of the soul, patience, wealth, firmness, memory, and fame.
न क्रोधो न च मात्सर्यं न लोभो नाशुभा मतिः ।
भवन्ति कृतपुण्यानां भक्तानां पुरुषोत्तमे ॥ १३॥
Neither anger, nor envy, nor greed, nor evil thoughts exist in those devotees of the Supreme Purusha who have performed meritorious deeds.
द्यौः सचन्द्रार्कनक्षत्रा खं दिशो भूर्महोदधिः ।
वासुदेवस्य वीर्येण विधृतानि महात्मनः ॥ १४॥
The heaven with the moon, sun, and stars, the sky, the directions, the earth, and the great ocean are upheld by the power of the great-souled Vasudeva.
ससुरासुरगन्धर्वं सयक्षोरगराक्षसम् ।
जगद्वशे वर्ततेदं कृष्णस्य सचराचरम् ॥ १५॥
This universe of moving and unmoving beings, including gods, demons, Gandharvas, Yakshas, serpents, and Rakshasas, is under the control of Krishna.
इन्द्रियाणि मनो बुद्धिः सत्त्वं तेजो बलं धृतिः ।
वासुदेवात्मकान्याहुः क्षेत्रं क्षेत्रज्ञ एव च ॥ १६॥
The senses, mind, intellect, sattva (purity), energy, strength, and firmness are said to have Vasudeva as their soul; so too the field (body) and the knower of the field (soul).
सर्वागमानामाचारः प्रथमं परिकल्प्यते । (परिकल्पते, परिकल्पितः)
आचारप्रभवो धर्मो धर्मस्य प्रभुरच्युतः ॥ १७॥
Right conduct is declared to be the foremost among all scriptures. Dharma is born of right conduct, and the imperishable Lord is the master of dharma.
ऋषयः पितरो देवा महाभूतानि धातवः ।
जङ्गमाजङ्गमं चेदं जगन्नारायणोद्भवम् ॥ १८॥
The sages, ancestors, gods, the great elements, the metals, and this moving and unmoving universe are born of Narayana.
योगो ज्ञानं तथा साङ्ख्यं विद्याः शिल्पादिकर्म च ।
वेदाः शास्त्राणि विज्ञानमेतत्सर्वं जनार्दनात् ॥ १९॥
Yoga, knowledge, the Sankhya philosophy, sciences, arts and crafts, the Vedas, the scriptures, and specific knowledge - all these originate from Janardana.
एको विष्णुर्महद्भूतं पृथग्भूतान्यनेकशः ।
त्रींल्लोकान्व्याप्य भूतात्मा भुङ्क्ते विश्वभुगव्ययः ॥ २०॥
Vishnu is the one great being who appears separately as many beings. Permeating the three worlds, the soul of all beings, the imperishable one, enjoys the universe.
इमं स्तवं भगवतो विष्णोर्व्यासेन कीर्तितम् ।
पठेद्य इच्छेत्पुरुषः श्रेयः प्राप्तुं सुखानि च ॥ २१॥
A person who wishes to attain the highest good and happiness should read this hymn of Lord Vishnu sung by Vyasa.
विश्वेश्वरमजं देवं जगतः प्रभुमव्ययम् ।
भजन्ति ये पुष्कराक्षं न ते यान्ति पराभवम् ॥ २२॥
Those who worship the lotus-eyed Lord, the master of the universe, the unborn, the imperishable Lord of the world, never face defeat.
न ते यान्ति पराभवम् ॐ नम इति ।
अर्जुन उवाच---
पद्मपत्रविशालाक्ष पद्मनाभ सुरोत्तम ।
भक्तानामनुरक्तानां त्राता भव जनार्दन ॥ २३॥
They never meet with defeat. Om, salutations [to the Lord].
Arjuna said:
O Lord with eyes as wide as lotus petals, O Lotus-navelled One, O Supreme among the gods,
Be the savior of Your devotees who are deeply devoted to You, O Janardana.
श्रीभगवानुवाच ---
यो मां नामसहस्रेण स्तोतुमिच्छति पाण्डव ।
सोहऽमेकेन श्लोकेन स्तुत एव न संशयः ॥ २४॥
The Supreme Lord said: O Arjuna, whoever wishes to praise Me by reciting the thousand names, I am undoubtedly praised even if he recites just one verse (sloka).
स्तुत एव न संशय ॐ नम इति ।
व्यास उवाच---
वासनाद्वासुदेवस्य वासितं भुवनत्रयम् ।
सर्वभूतनिवासोऽसि वासुदेव नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ २५॥
Indeed, He is praised, there is no doubt, by the utterance "Om, salutations."
Vyasa said:
By the all-pervading fragrance of Vasudeva's presence, the three worlds are enveloped and inhabited.
You are the supreme dwelling place of all living beings; O Vasudeva, salutations unto You.
श्रीवासुदेव नमोऽस्तु त ॐ नम इति ।
पार्वत्युवाच---
केनोपायेन लघुना विष्णोर्नामसहस्रकम् ।
पठ्यते पण्डितैर्नित्यं श्रोतुमिच्छाम्यहं प्रभो ॥ २६॥
O Sri Vasudeva, salutations unto You; Om, obeisance.
Parvati said:
By what simple and brief means is the thousand names of Lord Vishnu recited daily by the learned? I desire to hear this, O Lord.
ईश्वर उवाच---
श्रीरामरामरामेति रमे रामे मनोरमे । (रामरामेति रामेति)
सहस्रनामतत्तुल्यं रामनाम वरानने ॥ २७॥
Lord Ishvara said:
"O beautiful-faced one who delights my mind! By chanting 'Sri Rama, Rama, Rama,' I revel in the blissful consciousness of Rama. Indeed, this single name of Rama is equivalent to the thousand names of the Divine."
श्रीरामनाम वरानन ॐ नम इति ।
Om, Salutations to the name of Sri Rama, O fair-faced one.
ब्रह्मोवाच ---
नमोऽस्त्वनन्ताय सहस्रमूर्तये
सहस्रपादाक्षिशिरोरुबाहवे ।
सहस्रनाम्ने पुरुषाय शाश्वते
सहस्रकोटियुगधारिणे नमः ॥ २८॥
Brahma said:
Salutations to the Infinite One, who manifests in a thousand forms,
Who possesses a thousand feet, eyes, heads, thighs, and arms.
Obeisance to the Eternal Supreme Being who bears a thousand names,
To Him who sustains thousands of millions of eons, salutations.
सहस्रकोटियुगधारिणे नम ॐ नम इति ।
Om, Salutations to Him who sustains thousands of crores of Yugas.
ॐ तत्सदिति श्रीमहाभारते शतसाहस्र्यां संहितायां वैयासिक्यामानुशासनिके
पर्वणि भीष्मयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे श्रीविष्णोर्दिव्यसहस्रनामस्तोत्रम् ॥
Om Tat Sat. Thus ends the divine thousand names of Sri Vishnu in the Anushasana Parva of the great epic Mahabharata, a compilation of one hundred thousand verses by Vyasa, during the dialogue between Bhishma and Yudhishthira.
सञ्जय उवाच---
यत्र योगेश्वरः कृष्णो यत्र पार्थो धनुर्धरः ।
तत्र श्रीर्विजयो भूतिर्ध्रुवा नीतिर्मतिर्मम ॥ २९॥
Sanjaya said:
Wherever there is Krishna, the Lord of Yoga, and wherever there is Partha, the wielder of the bow, there will surely be fortune, victory, prosperity, and unshakeable righteousness. This is my firm conviction.
श्रीभगवानुवाच ---
अनन्याश्चिन्तयन्तो मां ये जनाः पर्युपासते ।
तेषां नित्याभियुक्तानां योगक्षेमं वहाम्यहम् ॥ ३०॥
The Supreme Lord said:
To those who worship Me with undivided devotion, meditating on Me alone, and who are ever-steadfast in union with Me—I personally bring what they lack and protect what they already possess.
परित्राणाय साधूनां विनाशाय च दुष्कृताम् ।
धर्मसंस्थापनार्थाय सम्भवामि युगे युगे ॥ ३१॥
To deliver the pious and to annihilate the miscreants, as well as to reestablish the principles of religion, I Myself appear, millennium after millennium.
आर्ता विषण्णाः शिथिलाश्च भीता घोरेषु च व्याधिषु वर्तमानाः ।
सङ्कीर्त्य नारायणशब्दमात्रं विमुक्तदुःखाः सुखिनो भवन्ति ॥ ३२॥ (भवन्तु)
Those who are afflicted, distressed, weak, and terrified, or those suffering from terrible diseases, by merely chanting the word "Narayana", become free from sorrow and become happy.
कायेन वाचा मनसेन्द्रियैर्वा बुद्ध्यात्मना वा प्रकृतेः स्वभावात् । (प्रकृतिस्वभावात् ।)
करोमि यद्यत् सकलं परस्मै नारायणायेति समर्पयामि ॥ ३३॥
Whatever I do with my body, speech, mind, senses, intellect, or soul, or by my own nature, I offer it all to the Supreme Lord Narayana.
इति श्रीविष्णोर्दिव्यसहस्रनामस्तोत्रं सम्पूर्णम् ।
Thus the divine thousand names of Sri Vishnu are complete.
महाभारते अनुशासनपर्वणि अध्यायः १४९
Mahabharata, Anushasana Parva, Chapter 149.
ॐ आपदामपहर्तारं दातारं सर्वसम्पदाम् ।
लोकाभिरामं श्रीरामं भूयो भूयो नमाम्यहम् ॥
Om. I bow again and again to Sri Rama, the beloved of the worlds, the destroyer of calamities and the giver of all wealth.
आर्तानामार्तिहन्तारं भीतानां भीतिनाशनम् ।
द्विषतां कालदण्डं तं रामचन्द्रं नमाम्यहम् ॥
I bow to Ramachandra, the destroyer of the distress of the distressed, the destroyer of the fear of the frightened, and the staff of death for enemies.
नमः कोदण्डहस्ताय सन्धीकृतशराय च ।
खण्डिताखिलदैत्याय रामायापन्निवारिणे ॥
Salutations to Rama, holding the Kodanda bow in His hand, with an arrow fitted to the string, the destroyer of all demons, and the remover of distress.
रामाय रामभद्राय रामचन्द्राय वेधसे ।
रघुनाथाय नाथाय सीतायाः पतये नमः ॥
Salutations to Rama, Ramabhadra, Ramachandra, the Creator, Raghunatha, the Lord, and the husband of Sita.
अग्रतः पृष्ठतश्चैव पार्श्वतश्च महाबलौ ।
आकर्णपूर्णधन्वानौ रक्षेतां रामलक्ष्मणौ ॥
May the two very powerful ones, Rama and Lakshmana, with their bows drawn to the ear, protect me from the front, the back, and the sides.
सन्नद्धः कवची खड्गी चापबाणधरो युवा ।
गच्छन् ममाग्रतो नित्यं रामः पातु सलक्ष्मणः ॥
May the youth Rama, accompanied by Lakshmana, equipped, wearing armor, holding a sword, bow, and arrow, always walk before me and protect me.
अच्युतानन्तगोविन्दनामोच्चारणभेषजात् ।
नश्यन्ति सकला रोगास्सत्यं सत्यं वदाम्यहम् ॥
By the medicine of chanting the names Achyuta, Ananta, and Govinda, all diseases are destroyed. I speak the truth, the truth.
सत्यं सत्यं पुनस्सत्यमुद्धृत्य भुजमुच्यते ।
वेदाच्छास्त्रं परं नास्ति न दैवं केशवात्परम् ॥ (न देवः केशवात्परः - गरुडपुराण ३.१०.५५)
Truth, truth, and again truth is spoken with raised arms: There is no scripture higher than the Vedas, and no deity higher than Keshava.
शरीरे जर्जरीभूते व्याधिग्रस्ते कलेवरे ।
औषधं जाह्नवीतोयं वैद्यो नारायणो हरिः ॥
When the body becomes decrepit and the physical frame is gripped by disease, the medicine is the water of the Ganges, and the physician is Narayana, Hari.
आलोड्य सर्वशास्त्राणि विचार्य च पुनः पुनः ।
इदमेकं सुनिष्पन्नं ध्येयो नारायणो हरिः ॥
After churning all the scriptures and pondering over them again and again, this one conclusion has been firmly reached: Narayana, Hari, is the one to be meditated upon.
यदक्षरपदभ्रष्टं मात्राहीनं तु यद्भवेत् ।
तत्सर्वं क्षम्यतां देव नारायण नमोऽस्तु ते ॥
Whatever may be deficient in letter, word, or measure, may all that be forgiven, O Lord Narayana. Salutations to You.
विसर्गबिन्दुमात्राणि पदपादाक्षराणि च ।
न्यूनानि चातिरिक्तानि क्षमस्व पुरुषोत्तम ॥
Whatever has been omitted in visarga, bindu, matra, pada, pada, and akshara, or whatever is in excess, forgive me, O Purushottama.
Alternate Concluding Shlokas
नमः कमलनाभाय नमस्ते जलशायिने ।
नमस्ते केशवानन्त वासुदेव नमोऽस्तुते ॥
Salutations to Him with a lotus navel, salutations to Him resting on the waters, salutations to You, O Keshava, Ananta, Vasudeva.
नमो ब्रह्मण्यदेवाय गोब्राह्मणहिताय च ।
जगद्धिताय कृष्णाय गोविन्दाय नमो नमः ॥
Salutations to the Lord of Brahmanas, the benefactor of cows and Brahmanas, the benefactor of the universe, Krishna, Govinda. Salutations, salutations.
आकाशात्पतितं तोयं यथा गच्छति सागरम् ।
सर्वदेवनमस्कारः केशवं प्रति गच्छति ॥
Just as the water falling from the sky goes to the ocean, the salutations offered to all gods go to Keshava.
एष निष्कण्टकः पन्था यत्र सम्पूज्यते हरिः ।
कुपथं तं विजानीयाद् गोविन्दरहितागमम् ॥
This is the path free of thorns (obstacles) where Lord Hari is worshipped. One should know that the scripture devoid of Govinda is a wrong path.
सर्ववेदेषु यत्पुण्यं सर्वतीर्थेषु यत्फलम् ।
तत्फलं समवाप्नोति स्तुत्वा देवं जनार्दनम् ॥
Whatever merit there is in all the Vedas, whatever fruit there is in all holy places, that fruit one fully attains by praising the Lord Janardana.
यो नरः पठते नित्यं त्रिकालं केशवालये ।
द्विकालमेककालं वा क्रूरं सर्वं व्यपोहति ॥
A man who reads this daily in the temple of Keshava, at three times, two times, or one time, destroys all cruelty.
दह्यन्ते रिपवस्तस्य सौम्याः सर्वे सदा ग्रहाः ।
विलीयन्ते च पापानि स्तवे ह्यस्मिन् प्रकीर्तिते ॥
His enemies are burnt, all planets always become auspicious to him, and sins are dissolved when this hymn is proclaimed.
येन ध्यातः श्रुतो येन येनायं पठ्यते स्तवः ।
दत्तानि सर्वदानानि सुराः सर्वे समर्चिताः ॥
By whom He is meditated upon, by whom He is heard, by whom this hymn is read, all charities have been given by him, and all gods have been well-worshipped.
इह लोके परे वापि न भयं विद्यते क्वचित् ।
नाम्नां सहस्रं योऽधीते द्वादश्यां मम सन्निधौ ॥
