What Stotrams Is

Stotrams is a free reading library of Sanskrit devotional literature: over 1,100 stotras, mantras, sahasranamas, namavalis, Vedic suktas, Upanishads, and Vedic recitation texts, organized by deity and by genre. Every text is shown in its original Devanagari alongside transliteration into 8 other scripts, with an English meaning and background on the deity, traditional author, and significance.

Where the Texts Come From

The Sanskrit source text for each stotra is drawn from established public-domain repositories of classical literature. We do not alter, paraphrase, or shorten the original verses — every verse, name, and syllable is carried over exactly as published in the source. Formatting (verse boundaries, headings, colophons) is reflowed for clean reading, and every reformatting pass is checked character-by-character against the source to guarantee nothing was added or dropped.

How Descriptions and Meanings Are Written

Transliteration into the 8 non-Devanagari scripts is fully deterministic — a rule-based script conversion, not a rewording, so it carries no interpretive risk. The English meaning for each verse and the short description of each stotra's origin and significance are AI-assisted, then checked against the source text for accuracy before publishing. As with any translation of centuries-old devotional Sanskrit, nuances can be read more than one way — see our Disclaimer for how we handle that honestly.

If you spot an inaccurate transliteration, a mistranslated verse, or a misattributed author, we want to know — contact us and we'll review and correct it. Sanskrit is a precise language, and this project only stays useful if it stays accurate.
