ಅಸ್ಯ ಶ್ರೀ ಆದಿತ್ಯಕವಚಸ್ತೋತ್ರಮಹಾಮನ್ತ್ರಸ್ಯ ಅಗಸ್ತ್ಯೋ ಭಗವಾನೃಷಿಃ ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ಛನ್ದಃ ಆದಿತ್ಯೋ ದೇವತಾ ಶ್ರೀಂ ಬೀಜಂ ಣೀಂ ಶಕ್ತಿಃ ಸೂಂ ಕೀಲಕಂ ಮಮ ಆದಿತ್ಯಪ್ರಸಾದಸಿದ್ಧ್ಯರ್ಥೇ ಜಪೇ ವಿನಿಯೋಗಃ ।
ಧ್ಯಾನಂ
The Rishi (seer) of this great Aditya Kavacha Stotra mantra is the venerable Sage Agastya; the meter is Anushtup; the presiding deity is Aditya; Shrim is the seed (bija); Nim is the power (shakti); Sum is the pin (kilaka); the recitation of this mantra is performed for the grace and blessings of Lord Aditya.
Meditation:
ಜಪಾಕುಸುಮಸಙ್ಕಾಶಂ ದ್ವಿಭುಜಂ ಪದ್ಮಹಸ್ತಕಮ್
I meditate on Him who resembles the Hibiscus flower in radiance, possessing two arms, and holding lotuses in His hands.
ಸಿನ್ದೂರಾಮ್ಬರಮಾಲ್ಯಂ ಚ ರಕ್ತಗನ್ಧಾನುಲೇಪನಮ್ ।
He is adorned with red garments and garlands, and smeared with red sandalwood paste.
ಮಾಣಿಕ್ಯರತ್ನಖಚಿತ-ಸರ್ವಾಭರಣಭೂಷಿತಮ್
He is bedecked with all kinds of ornaments encrusted with radiant rubies and precious gems.
ಸಪ್ತಾಶ್ವರಥವಾಹಂ ತು ಮೇರುಂ ಚೈವ ಪ್ರದಕ್ಷಿಣಮ್ ॥
ದೇವಾಸುರವರೈರ್ವನ್ದ್ಯಂ ಘೃಣಿಭಿಃ ಪರಿಸೇವಿತಮ್ ।
He travels in a chariot pulled by seven horses, circumambulating Mount Meru, worshipped by the best of Devas and Asuras, and served by rays of light.
ಧ್ಯಾಯೇತ್ಪಠೇತ್ಸುವರ್ಣಾಭಂ ಸೂರ್ಯಸ್ಯ ಕವಚಂ ಮುದಾ ॥
ಕವಚಂ
One should joyfully meditate upon and recite this golden-hued armor of Surya.
The Kavacha (Armor):
ಘೃಣಿಃ ಪಾತು ಶಿರೋದೇಶೇ ಸೂರ್ಯಃ ಪಾತು ಲಲಾಟಕಮ್ ।
May Ghrini (the Radiant One) protect my head, and may Surya protect my forehead.
ಆದಿತ್ಯೋ ಲೋಚನೇ ಪಾತು ಶ್ರುತೀ ಪಾತು ದಿವಾಕರಃ ॥
ಘ್ರಾಣಂ ಪಾತು ಸದಾ ಭಾನುಃ ಮುಖಂ ಪಾತು ಸದಾರವಿಃ ।
May Aditya protect my eyes, and may Divakara (the maker of the day) protect my ears. May Bhanu (the shining one) always protect my nose, and may Sadaravi (the eternal Sun) protect my mouth.
ಜಿಹ್ವಾಂ ಪಾತು ಜಗನ್ನೇತ್ರಃ ಕಣ್ಠಂ ಪಾತು ವಿಭಾವಸುಃ ॥
ಸ್ಕನ್ಧೌ ಗ್ರಹಪತಿಃ ಪಾತು ಭುಜೌ ಪಾತು ಪ್ರಭಾಕರಃ ।
May Jagannetra (the eye of the world) protect my tongue, and may Vibhavasu (the source of light) protect my throat. May Grahapati (the lord of the planets) protect my shoulders, and may Prabhakara (the maker of light) protect my arms.
ಕರಾವಬ್ಜಕರಃ ಪಾತು ಹೃದಯಂ ಪಾತು ನಭೋಮಣಿಃ ॥
ದ್ವಾದಶಾತ್ಮಾ ಕಟಿಂ ಪಾತು ಸವಿತಾ ಪಾತು ಸಕ್ಥಿನೀ ।
May Abdjakara (He who holds the lotus) protect my hands, and may Nabhomani (the jewel of the sky) protect my heart. May the twelve-fold-formed One protect my waist, and may Savita (the stimulator) protect my thighs.
ಊರೂ ಪಾತು ಸುರಶ್ರೇಷ್ಟೋ ಜಾನುನೀ ಪಾತು ಭಾಸ್ಕರಃ ॥
ಜಙ್ಘೇ ಮೇ ಪಾತು ಮಾರ್ತಾಣ್ಡೋ ಗುಲ್ಫೌ ಪಾತು ತ್ವಿಷಾಮ್ಪತಿಃ ।
May the Lord of the Devas protect my thighs, and may Bhaskara protect my knees. May Martanda protect my shanks, and may the Lord of Effulgence protect my ankles.
ಪಾದೌ ದಿನಮಣಿಃ ಪಾತು ಪಾತು ಮಿತ್ರೋಽಖಿಲಂ ವಪುಃ ॥
ಆದಿತ್ಯಕವಚಂ ಪುಣ್ಯಮಭೇದ್ಯಂ ವಜ್ರಸನ್ನಿಭಮ್ ।
May the Jewel of the Day protect my feet, and may Mitra protect my entire body. This Aditya Kavacham is holy and impenetrable, similar to the Vajra weapon.
ಸರ್ವರೋಗಭಯಾದಿಭ್ಯೋ ಮುಚ್ಯತೇ ನಾತ್ರ ಸಂಶಯಃ ॥
ಸಂವತ್ಸರಮುಪಾಸಿತ್ವಾ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯಪದವೀಂ ಲಭೇತ್ ।
There is no doubt that one is liberated from all diseases and fears by this. By worshipping with this for one full year, one attains the position of an emperor.
ಅಶೇಷರೋಗಶಾನ್ತ್ಯರ್ಥಂ ಧ್ಯಾಯೇದಾದಿತ್ಯಮಣ್ಡಲಮ್ ।
ಆದಿತ್ಯ ಮಣ್ಡಲ ಸ್ತುತಿಃ –
For the pacification of all diseases, one should meditate upon the solar orb (Aditya Mandala). Here begins the hymn to the solar orb:
ಅನೇಕರತ್ನಸಂಯುಕ್ತಂ ಸ್ವರ್ಣಮಾಣಿಕ್ಯಭೂಷಣಮ್ ।
Adorned with many kinds of jewels, and decorated with ornaments of gold and rubies.
ಕಲ್ಪವೃಕ್ಷಸಮಾಕೀರ್ಣಂ ಕದಮ್ಬಕುಸುಮಪ್ರಿಯಮ್ ॥
ಸಿನ್ದೂರವರ್ಣಾಯ ಸುಮಣ್ಡಲಾಯ
Surrounded by wish-fulfilling trees, and fond of the Kadamba flower. To the one who is vermillion-colored and possesses a beautiful orb,
ಸುವರ್ಣರತ್ನಾಭರಣಾಯ ತುಭ್ಯಮ್ ।
And who is adorned with gold and jeweled ornaments—to You, I offer my salutations.
ಪದ್ಮಾದಿನೇತ್ರೇ ಚ ಸುಪಙ್ಕಜಾಯ
To the One whose eyes are like lotuses, and who is like a beautiful lotus bloom,
ಬ್ರಹ್ಮೇನ್ದ್ರ-ನಾರಾಯಣ-ಶಙ್ಕರಾಯ ॥
ಸಂರಕ್ತಚೂರ್ಣಂ ಸಸುವರ್ಣತೋಯಂ
Who is (the essence of) Brahma, Indra, Narayana, and Shankara. I offer red powder and golden water,
ಸಕುಙ್ಕುಮಾಭಂ ಸಕುಶಂ ಸಪುಷ್ಪಮ್ ।
Which is like saffron in hue, accompanied by sacred Kusa grass and flowers.
ಪ್ರದತ್ತಮಾದಾಯ ಚ ಹೇಮಪಾತ್ರೇ
Taking what has been offered in the golden vessel,
ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತನಾದಂ ಭಗವನ್ ಪ್ರಸೀದ ॥
O Lord, who possesses a resonant and glorious sound, be pleased with me.
