The Rishi (seer) of this great Aditya Kavacha Stotra mantra is the venerable Sage Agastya; the meter is Anushtup; the presiding deity is Aditya; Shrim is the seed (bija); Nim is the power (shakti); Sum is the pin (kilaka); the recitation of this mantra is performed for the grace and blessings of Lord Aditya.
Meditation:
japākusumasaṅkāśaṃ dvibhujaṃ padmahastakam
I meditate on Him who resembles the Hibiscus flower in radiance, possessing two arms, and holding lotuses in His hands.
sindūrāmbaramālyaṃ ca raktagandhānulepanam |
He is adorned with red garments and garlands, and smeared with red sandalwood paste.
māṇikyaratnakhacita-sarvābharaṇabhūṣitam
He is bedecked with all kinds of ornaments encrusted with radiant rubies and precious gems.
saptāśvarathavāhaṃ tu meruṃ caiva pradakṣiṇam ||
devāsuravarairvandyaṃ ghṛṇibhiḥ parisevitam |
He travels in a chariot pulled by seven horses, circumambulating Mount Meru, worshipped by the best of Devas and Asuras, and served by rays of light.
dhyāyetpaṭhetsuvarṇābhaṃ sūryasya kavacaṃ mudā ||
kavacaṃ
One should joyfully meditate upon and recite this golden-hued armor of Surya.
The Kavacha (Armor):
ghṛṇiḥ pātu śirodeśe sūryaḥ pātu lalāṭakam |
May Ghrini (the Radiant One) protect my head, and may Surya protect my forehead.
ādityo locane pātu śrutī pātu divākaraḥ ||
ghrāṇaṃ pātu sadā bhānuḥ mukhaṃ pātu sadāraviḥ |
May Aditya protect my eyes, and may Divakara (the maker of the day) protect my ears. May Bhanu (the shining one) always protect my nose, and may Sadaravi (the eternal Sun) protect my mouth.
jihvāṃ pātu jagannetraḥ kaṇṭhaṃ pātu vibhāvasuḥ ||
skandhau grahapatiḥ pātu bhujau pātu prabhākaraḥ |
May Jagannetra (the eye of the world) protect my tongue, and may Vibhavasu (the source of light) protect my throat. May Grahapati (the lord of the planets) protect my shoulders, and may Prabhakara (the maker of light) protect my arms.
karāvabjakaraḥ pātu hṛdayaṃ pātu nabhomaṇiḥ ||
dvādaśātmā kaṭiṃ pātu savitā pātu sakthinī |
May Abdjakara (He who holds the lotus) protect my hands, and may Nabhomani (the jewel of the sky) protect my heart. May the twelve-fold-formed One protect my waist, and may Savita (the stimulator) protect my thighs.
ūrū pātu suraśreṣṭo jānunī pātu bhāskaraḥ ||
jaṅghe me pātu mārtāṇḍo gulphau pātu tviṣāmpatiḥ |
May the Lord of the Devas protect my thighs, and may Bhaskara protect my knees. May Martanda protect my shanks, and may the Lord of Effulgence protect my ankles.
pādau dinamaṇiḥ pātu pātu mitro'khilaṃ vapuḥ ||
ādityakavacaṃ puṇyamabhedyaṃ vajrasannibham |
May the Jewel of the Day protect my feet, and may Mitra protect my entire body. This Aditya Kavacham is holy and impenetrable, similar to the Vajra weapon.
sarvarogabhayādibhyo mucyate nātra saṃśayaḥ ||
saṃvatsaramupāsitvā sāmrājyapadavīṃ labhet |
There is no doubt that one is liberated from all diseases and fears by this. By worshipping with this for one full year, one attains the position of an emperor.
aśeṣarogaśāntyarthaṃ dhyāyedādityamaṇḍalam |
āditya maṇḍala stutiḥ –
For the pacification of all diseases, one should meditate upon the solar orb (Aditya Mandala). Here begins the hymn to the solar orb:
anekaratnasaṃyuktaṃ svarṇamāṇikyabhūṣaṇam |
Adorned with many kinds of jewels, and decorated with ornaments of gold and rubies.
kalpavṛkṣasamākīrṇaṃ kadambakusumapriyam ||
sindūravarṇāya sumaṇḍalāya
Surrounded by wish-fulfilling trees, and fond of the Kadamba flower. To the one who is vermillion-colored and possesses a beautiful orb,
suvarṇaratnābharaṇāya tubhyam |
And who is adorned with gold and jeweled ornaments—to You, I offer my salutations.
padmādinetre ca supaṅkajāya
To the One whose eyes are like lotuses, and who is like a beautiful lotus bloom,
brahmendra-nārāyaṇa-śaṅkarāya ||
saṃraktacūrṇaṃ sasuvarṇatoyaṃ
Who is (the essence of) Brahma, Indra, Narayana, and Shankara. I offer red powder and golden water,
sakuṅkumābhaṃ sakuśaṃ sapuṣpam |
Which is like saffron in hue, accompanied by sacred Kusa grass and flowers.
pradattamādāya ca hemapātre
Taking what has been offered in the golden vessel,
praśastanādaṃ bhagavan prasīda ||
O Lord, who possesses a resonant and glorious sound, be pleased with me.
