muṇḍaka upaniṣad - tṛtīya muṇḍaka, dvitīya kāṇḍaḥ

He who knows this Supreme Brahman, the dwelling place wherein the entire universe is held and shines—those wise ones who, free from all desires, worship the Supreme Person, truly transcend this seed of rebirth.

He who dwells upon desires and longs for them is born again and again in those very places where his desires lead him. But for one who is fulfilled in the Self and whose being is perfected, all desires vanish right here in this life.

This Self cannot be attained by instruction, nor by intellectual power, nor through much hearing of the scriptures. It is attained only by the one whom the Self chooses; to such a one, the Self reveals its own true nature.

This Self cannot be attained by one who lacks inner strength, nor by carelessness, nor by aimless penance. But the wise one who strives through these proper means enters into the dwelling place of Brahman.

Having attained Him, the seers become satisfied with knowledge, their souls perfected, free from attachment, and tranquil. Realizing the All-pervading One everywhere, these wise souls, ever-united with Him, enter into the All.

Those who have firmly ascertained the truth through the knowledge of Vedanta, and who have purified their minds through the path of renunciation, attain the world of Brahman at the end of time, becoming supreme immortals and finding complete liberation.

The fifteen parts return to their sources, and all the sense-deities return to their corresponding presiding deities. All one's deeds and the self, identified with the intellect, all become one in the Supreme, Imperishable Being.

As flowing rivers disappear into the ocean, casting off their names and forms, even so, the wise one, freed from name and form, attains the Divine Person who is greater than the greatest.

He who truly knows that Supreme Brahman becomes Brahman himself. In his lineage, no one is born who does not know Brahman. He overcomes sorrow and transcends sin; liberated from the knots of the heart, he becomes immortal.

This has been declared by the verse: This knowledge of Brahman should be taught only to those who perform their duties, who are learned in the Vedas, established in Brahman, and who, full of faith, offer sacrifices to the singular fire; for only those who have performed the vow of the head according to tradition are fit to receive it.

This is the Truth. The sage Angiras declared this; it should not be studied by one who has not observed the vow of truth and discipline. Salutations to the great seers; salutations to the great seers.
