ಮುಣ್ಡಕ ಉಪನಿಷದ್ - ದ್ವಿತೀಯ ಮುಣ್ಡಕ, ಪ್ರಥಮ ಕಾಣ್ಡಃ

This is the Truth: As from a blazing fire, thousands of sparks of the same nature as the fire originate, so also, O gentle one, various beings are manifested from the Imperishable Brahman, and into Him they return.

Luminous, formless, and existing both outside and inside is that Being; He is birthless, without breath and without mind; He is pure, and higher than the high Imperishable.

From Him are born the life-force, the mind, and all the senses, as well as space, air, light, water, and the earth, which supports all the worlds.

Fire is His head, the sun and moon His eyes, the directions His ears, the revealed Vedas His speech, the wind His breath, the universe His heart; from His feet the earth emerged. He is indeed the inner Self of all beings.

From Him comes the fire whose fuel is the sun; from the moon comes the rain, and from the rain the herbs upon the earth. The male pours the seed into the female, and thus, from the Purusha, many creatures are born.

From Him come the Rig, Sama, and Yajur Vedas, the initiations, all sacrifices, rites, and offerings, the year, the sacrificer, and the worlds where the moon shines and the sun glows.

From Him the gods are born in many ways, as are the Sadhyas, men, animals, and birds; from Him also come inhalation and exhalation, rice and barley, austerity, faith, truth, continence, and the law.

From Him originate the seven life-forces, the seven flames, the seven kinds of fuel, the seven oblations, and these seven worlds in which the life-forces move, hidden in the secret cave of the heart, seven by seven.

From Him come all the oceans and the mountains, and from Him flow the rivers of various forms. From Him also come all the herbs and the essence, through which the inner Self exists supported by the elements.

The Purusha is indeed all this—the universe, the work, the austerity, and the supreme, immortal Brahman. He who knows this Truth hidden in the secret cave of the heart, O gentle one, cuts asunder the knot of ignorance even here in this life.
