O Eye, O Eye, O Eye, be steady and full of radiance. Protect me, protect me. Quickly pacify, pacify my eye ailments. Reveal, reveal to me your golden luster. So arrange, O Lord, that I may not become blind. Grant me welfare, grant me welfare. Root out, root out all the obstacles to my vision caused by the misdeeds of my past lives. Om! Salutations to the Divine Bhaskara, the giver of light to the eyes. Om! Salutations to the compassionate one, the source of nectar. Om! Salutations to Surya. Om! Salutations to the radiant Lord Surya, the source of ocular brilliance. Salutations to the one who traverses the sky. Salutations to the Great One. Salutations to Rajas (the active aspect). The Lord is the swan, the embodiment of purity. A brahmin who studies this Chakshushmati Vidya daily does not suffer from eye diseases, nor is there any blindness in his family. By teaching this to eight brahmins, one attains the perfection of this knowledge. O Lord Surya, who assumes all forms, who possesses rays of light, who knows all that is born, who is golden-hued, who is the light itself, who radiates heat, and who travels in a hundred paths with thousands of rays—you rise before all beings.
