ఆయుష్య సూక్తమ్

May He, who is the creator and supporter of the universe, who carries the trident (Pinaka) and wears the hide of the tiger, who is the Supreme Lord (Ishana) who manifested from the Brahman, grant us long life. To Him, I offer this oblation of ghee.

May that radiant Lord, who shines forth brilliantly from the midst of the cosmic waters, who is effulgent and possesses the luster of the sun, come unto us. May He, the Divine, banish all the formidable snares of death and grant us, through this offering of ghee, a long and blessed life.

We invoke for the sake of long life, through this offering of ghee, that golden-hued, radiant, and adorable Divine Light, which is the progenitor of all forms, who dwells within the mothers of the universe, and who overcomes all obstacles.

We propitiate with this offering of ghee that primordial and divine knowledge—the source of all creation—who is known as Shri, Lakshmi, Ambika, and Indrasena, and who manifests in every form, to bestow upon us a life of excellence and longevity.

May those divine powers—the daughters of Daksha, the sources of all creation, and those who manifest in a thousand forms, both familiar and mysterious, accompanied by their descendants, consorts, and companions—accept this offering of ghee and grant us the blessing of a long life.

May the ancient and multifaceted divine hosts, who have the power to cut through the span of life, be appeased and not harm our heroes. To them, I offer this ghee in many ways, praying that they do not inflict injury upon our progeny or our valorous ones.

May the Supreme Lord, who existed alone in the beginning, who is the guardian of the worlds, from whom all creation arises, and into whom all creation merges at the time of dissolution, accept this offering of ghee and grant us a long life.

Having offered ghee to the Vasus, Rudras, Adityas, Maruts, Sadhyas, Ribhus, Yakshas, Gandharvas, the Pitrus, the Vishvedevas, the Bhrigus, the Serpents, and the Angirasas, we forever honor and celebrate the blessing of a long and healthy life. May Lord Vishnu, the all-pervading protector, grant us the ultimate refuge and peace; may the streams of our life flow with eternal sweetness and inexhaustible vitality. Om Peace, Peace, Peace.
